1. A method, with a mobile communication device, for determining whether to download a full instance of an email, the method comprising:

  • receiving, by the mobile communication device, one or more wireless communication signals from a wireless communication infrastructure through which the mobile communication device is configured to receive email messages;

    monitoring, by the mobile communication device, one or more quality of service (QoS) wireless communication parameters associated with the received wireless communication signals, to determine if at least one of the one or more QoS wireless communication parameters exceeds a respective predefined threshold thereby indicating poor quality of service communication for the mobile communication device and that the mobile communication device is entering a poor wireless coverage area for the wireless communication infrastructure, the QoS wireless communication parameters including at least one of;

    the relative signal strength of the received signals,one or more dropped connections with the wireless communication infrastructure, orone or more dropped communication packets during communication with the wireless communication infrastructure;

    automatically, in response to detecting occurrence of a QoS event defined by the monitored one or more QoS wireless communication parameters exceeding the respective predefined threshold, sending a request, from the mobile communication device to the wireless communication infrastructure, to completely download to the mobile communication device from an email server a full instance of all unread or unopened emails that are currently stored in the mobile communication device and that have not yet been fully downloaded; and

    while not detecting occurrence of a QoS event, receiving unread or unopened emails as configured in the mobile communication device and not sending the request.
