Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to measure search results are disclosed. A disclosed example method to determine an order for search results in response to a search query includes determining a first preview metric and a second preview metric for a first search result and a second search result corresponding to a search query from a requester, the first preview metric including a first ratio based on a first count of preview events for the first search result and a second count of search result impressions in the first search result, the second preview metric including a second ratio based on a third count of preview events for the second search result and a fourth count of search result impressions in the second search result; ordering the first and second search results based on the first and second preview metrics; and sending a response to the requester instructing a web browser of the requester to display the ordered search results.

Claims

1. A method to determine an order for search results in response to a search query, the method comprising:

determining, by executing an instruction using a processor, a first preview metric and a second preview metric for a first search result and a second search result corresponding to the search query from a requester, the first preview metric including a first ratio based on a first count of preview events for the first search result and a second count of impressions of the first search result in the search query, the second preview metric including a second ratio based on a third count of preview events for the second search result and a fourth count of impressions of the second search result in the search query;

ordering, by executing an instruction using the processor, the first search result and the second search result based on the first preview metric and the second preview metric; and

sending, by executing an instruction using the processor, a response to the requester instructing a web browser of the requester to display the ordered search results.

The method of claim 1, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to an effectiveness of a first representation of a first web page corresponding to the first preview metric and a second representation of a second web page corresponding to the second preview metric to cause the requester to interact with at least one of the first or second search results.

The method of claim 2, further including, when the effectiveness of the first representation of the first web page to cause the requester to interact with the first search result is higher than the effectiveness of the second representation of the second web page to cause the requester to interact with the second search result, ordering the first search result before the second search result.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric are determined based on previous search queries from at least one of the requester or a second requester.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to a demographic of the requester.

The method of claim 1, wherein the preview events correspond to representations of web pages generated by a browser executing instructions included in a first web page when a user interacts with an icon associated with a second web page of the web pages, the first web page including the icon, the first search result, and the second search result.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the browser to generate the representations of web pages for display in the first web page without navigating away from the first web page.

8. An apparatus to determine an order for search results in response to a search query, the apparatus comprising:

a search result orderer to;

determine a first preview metric and a second preview metric for a first search result and a second search result corresponding to the search query from a requester, the first preview metric including a first ratio based on a first count of preview events for the first search result and a second count of impressions of the first search result in the search query, the second preview metric including a second ratio based on a third count of preview events for the second search result and a fourth count of impressions of the second search result in the search query; and

order the first search result and the second search result based on the first preview metric and the second preview metric; and

a search processor to send a response to the requester instructing a web browser of the requester to display the ordered search results.

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to an effectiveness of a first representation of a first web page corresponding to the first preview metric and a second representation of a second web page corresponding to the second preview metric to cause the requester to interact with at least one of the first or second search results.

The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the search result orderer is to, when the effectiveness of the first representation of the first web page to cause the requester to interact with the first search result is higher than the effectiveness of the second representation of the second web page to cause the requester to interact with the second search result, order the first search result before the second search result.

11. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric are determined based on previous search queries from at least one of the requester or a second requester.

12. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to a demographic of the requester.

13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the preview events correspond to representations of web pages generated by a browser executing instructions included in a first web page when a user interacts with an icon associated with a second web page of the web pages, the first web page including the icon, the first search result, and the second search result.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the instructions to cause the browser to generate the representations of web pages for display in the first web page without navigating away from the first web page.

15. A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising instructions to determine an order for search results in response to a search query, the instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:

determine a first preview metric and a second preview metric for a first search result and a second search result corresponding to a search query from a requester, the first preview metric including a first ratio based on a first count of preview events for the first search result and a second count of impressions of the first search result in the search query, the second preview metric including a second ratio based on a third count of preview events for the second search result and a fourth count of impressions of the second search result in the search query;

order the first search result and the second search result based on the first preview metric and the second preview metric; and

send a response to the requester instructing a web browser of the requester to display the ordered search results.

The tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to an effectiveness of a first representation of a first web page corresponding to the first preview metric and a second representation of a second web page corresponding to the second preview metric to cause the requester to interact with at least one of the first or second search results.

The tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to, when the effectiveness of the first representation of the first web page to cause the requester to interact with the first search result is higher than the effectiveness of the second representation of the second representation to cause the requester to interact with the second search result, order the first search result before the second search result.

18. The tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric are determined based on previous search queries from at least one of the requester or a second requester.

19. The tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the first preview metric and the second preview metric correspond to a demographic of the requester.

The tangible computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the preview events correspond to representations of web pages generated by a browser executing instructions included in a first web page when a user interacts with an icon associated with a second web page of the web pages, the first web page including the icon, the first search result, and the second search result.
