1. A handheld gaming object that can be positioned and oriented in three-dimensional space, the handheld gaming object comprising:
- an orientation sensor that generates orientation data in response to an orientation of the handheld gaming object;
a capacitive sensor including a capacitive layer having a charge that directly responds to actions of a user including touch of the user in proximity to the capacitive layer, wherein the capacitive sensor includes a capacitive strip that generates interaction data that includes a hand position of a hand of the user from end to end of the capacitive strip that is based on an amount of the capacitive strip that is covered by the hand while grasping the handheld gaming object together with a level of grasp tightness that provides an indication of a manner in which the user grasps the handheld gaming object, wherein the manner in which the user grasps the handheld gaming object includes a first manner corresponding to a first hand position covering a first amount of the capacitive strip when the handheld gaming object is held near an end of the capacitive strip and wherein the manner in which the user grasps the handheld gaming object includes a second manner corresponding to a second hand position covering a second amount of the capacitive strip when the handheld gaming object is held to cover more of the capacitive strip relative to the first hand position; and
a transceiver coupled to send an RF signal to a gaming device, wherein the RF signal indicates the orientation data and the interaction data;
wherein the gaming device generates display data for display on a display device that contains at least one interactive item, and wherein the at least one interactive item is interactive in response to the orientation data and the interaction data, wherein the gaming device adjusts a game parameter of a game based on the manner in which the user grasps the handheld gaming object.

Abstract
A gaming object includes an orientation sensor that generates orientation data in response to the orientation of the gaming object. An actuator that generates interaction data in response to an action of a user. A transceiver sends an RF signal to a game device that indicates the orientation data and the interaction data. The game device generates display data for display on a display device that contains at least one interactive item, and wherein the at least one interactive item is interactive in response to the orientation data and the interaction data.
