Abstract

A method for processing a control channel at a user agent (UA) to identify power control commands within a wireless communication system, the method comprising the steps of, at a user agent, monitoring for power control messages on a single carrier, decoding a message received on the single carrier to generate decoded information and using the decoded information to identify a power control command for each of at least first and second carriers.

Claims

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) that is configured to perform Long Term Evolution (LTE) carrier aggregation operations, the method comprising:

identifying one carrier as an anchor carrier and at least one other carrier as a non-anchor carrier;

decoding a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in a common search space of only the anchor carrier; and

decoding another PDCCH in a UE specific search space of the anchor carrier, wherein a location of the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier varies pseudo-randomly for different sub-frames, and the common search space of the anchor carrier and the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier overlap.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein decoding the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier comprises decoding the PDCCH using a random access radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, an indication that at least one aggregation level corresponding to the common search space of the anchor carrier is not used.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a first indication corresponding to a power control index for the anchor carrier;

receiving a second indication corresponding to a power control index for the non-anchor carrier; and

determining power control commands for the anchor carrier based on the first indication, the second indication, and the PDCCH decoded in the common search space of the anchor carrier.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the PDCCH is at least one of downlink control information format 3 or downlink control information format 3A.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the anchor carrier and the non-anchor carrier are identified based on radio resource control signaling.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the decoding of the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier is not successful.

8. A user equipment (UE), comprising:

at least one hardware processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium coupled to the at least one hardware processor and storing programming instructions for execution by the at least one hardware processor, wherein the programming instructions, when executed, cause the at least one hardware processor to perform operations comprising;

identifying one carrier as an anchor carrier and at least one other carrier as a non-anchor carrier;

decoding a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in a common search space of only the anchor carrier; and

decoding another PDCCH in a UE specific search space of the anchor carrier, wherein a location of the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier varies pseudo-randomly for different sub-frames, and the common search space of the anchor carrier and the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier overlap.

9. The UE of claim 8, wherein decoding the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier comprises decoding the PDCCH using a random access radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

10. The UE of claim 8, the operations further comprising receiving, via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, an indication that at least one aggregation level corresponding to the common search space of the anchor carrier is not used.

11. The UE of claim 8, the operations further comprising:

receiving a first indication corresponding to a power control index for the anchor carrier;

receiving a second indication corresponding to a power control index for the non-anchor carrier; and

determining power control commands for the anchor carrier based on the first indication, the second indication, and the PDCCH decoded in the common search space of the anchor carrier.

12. The UE of claim 11, wherein the PDCCH is at least one of downlink control information format 3 or downlink control information format 3A.

13. The UE of claim 8, wherein the anchor carrier and the non-anchor carrier are identified based on radio resource control signaling.

14. The UE of claim 8, wherein the decoding of the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier is not successful.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed, cause a computing device to perform operations comprising:

identifying one carrier as an anchor carrier and at least one other carrier as a non-anchor carrier;

decoding a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in a common search space of only the anchor carrier; and

decoding another PDCCH in a UE specific search space of the anchor carrier, wherein a location of the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier varies pseudo-randomly for different sub-frames, and the common search space of the anchor carrier and the UE specific search space of the anchor carrier overlap.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein decoding the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier comprises decoding the PDCCH using a random access radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, the operations further comprising receiving, via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, an indication that at least one aggregation level corresponding to the common search space of the anchor carrier is not used.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, the operations further comprising:

receiving a first indication corresponding to a power control index for the anchor carrier;

receiving a second indication corresponding to a power control index for the non-anchor carrier; and

determining power control commands for the anchor carrier based on the first indication, the second indication, and the PDCCH decoded in the common search space of the anchor carrier.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the PDCCH is at least one of downlink control information format 3 or downlink control information format 3A.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the anchor carrier and the non-anchor carrier are identified based on radio resource control signaling.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the decoding of the PDCCH in the common search space of the anchor carrier is not successful.
