1. A method performed by at least one hardware processor, comprising:
- receiving measurement data from at least one sensor that detects a signal reflected from a surface inside a platform;
applying a likelihood ratio test using the measurement data;
determining a load status of the platform based on the likelihood ratio test, the load status of the platform representing an amount of physical items in the platform, the likelihood ratio test based on comparing a plurality of models including a null model representing an empty platform and an alternative model representing a loaded platform that contains at least one physical item, and wherein use of the likelihood ratio test reduces inaccuracy in the determined load status due to variations in a physical characteristic of the platform and a physical characteristic of the at least one sensor; and
transmit, over a network using a communication transceiver, a load status indication based on the determined load status.

Abstract
In some examples, measurement data is received from at least one sensor that detects a signal reflected from a surface inside a platform. A likelihood ratio test is applied using the measurement data, and a load status of the platform is determined based on the likelihood ratio test.

13. An apparatus comprising:
-
a communication transceiver; at least one sensor to output measurement data responsive to detecting a signal reflected from a surface inside a platform; and at least one processor configured to; compute a value by applying a likelihood ratio test function on the measurement data, wherein the likelihood ratio test function is based on a ratio between a model representing an empty platform and a model representing a loaded platform; determine a load status of the platform based on the computed value, the load status of the platform representing an amount of physical items in the platform, wherein use of the likelihood ratio test function reduces inaccuracy in the determined load status due to variations in a physical characteristic of the platform and a physical characteristic of the at least one sensor; and transmit, over a network using the communication transceiver, a load status indication based on the determined load status. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that upon execution cause a system to:
-
receive measurement data from at least one sensor that detects a signal reflected from a surface inside a platform; apply a likelihood ratio test using the measurement data, the likelihood ratio test producing an output value; and determine a load status of the platform based on comparing the output value to at least one threshold, wherein the load status of the platform represents an amount of physical items in the platform, wherein the likelihood ratio test is based on comparing a plurality of models including a null model representing an empty platform and an alternative model representing a loaded platform that contains at least one physical item. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21)
