Abstract

Disclosed in some examples is a method of media repair in an IMS based network, the method includes communicating with an IMS network using SIP to setup a download session with a BMSC over a MBMS bearer; responsive to determining that one or more received encoding symbols of media downloaded using the established MBMS bearer cannot be decoded: requesting a file repair procedure from the IMS network component using a SIP re-invite request, the SIP re-invite request including an address of an HTTP repair server indicated by the IMS network component during the MBMS bearer setup; responsive to receiving a SIP acknowledgement indicating that the request was successful, requesting an HTTP connection with the HTTP server to re-download the one or more encoding symbols of the media that could not be decoded; and receiving the one or more encoding symbols from the HTTP server.

Claims

1. An apparatus of a user equipment (UE), the apparatus comprising:

processing circuitry; and

memory, the processing circuitry configured to;

determine that a media file, downloaded over a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer from an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network component, requires a file repair;

initiate a file repair session by sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) re-invite request to the IMS network component; and

generate signaling to send a HTTP request to repair the media file to a file repair server identified in a SIP response message from the IMS network component,

wherein the memory is configured to store the SIP re-invite request.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to set up the MBMS bearer using SIP.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the SIP re-invite request includes an address of an HTTP server indicated by the IMS network component as the file repair server.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to download the media file using the MBMS bearer by utilizing a File Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (FLUTE) protocol.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the IMS network component is a Service Coordination Function (SCF).

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein to initiate the file repair session, the processing circuitry is further to initiate a communication session with the IMS network component over a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network or a Long Term Evolution-Advanced network.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the processing circuitry is further to leave a multicast channel to send the HTTP request to the file repair server to repair the media file.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the SIP response message includes information forwarded by a HTTP to SIP adapter from the file repair server.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein to generate signaling to send the HTTP request to repair the media file to the file repair server the processing circuitry is to generate signaling to send a request to re-download a subset of encoding symbols of the media file.

10. An apparatus of an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network component, the apparatus comprising:

processing circuitry; and

memory, the processing circuitry configured to;

execute a service coordination function (SCF) configured to;

receive a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) re-invite request from a User Equipment (UE);

determine that the SIP re-invite request includes a request for a file repair, the file received by the UE over a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer; and

send a SIP response message to the UE, the SIP response message including an address of a HTTP server to perform the file repair.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to execute the SCF to send a SIP invite request to a HTTP to SIP adapter;

and receive the SIP response message from the HTTP server via the HTTP to SIP adapter.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to execute the SCF to select the HTTP to SIP adapter prior to sending the SIP invite request.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to execute the SCF to send the SIP invite request to the HTTP to SIP adapter responsive to determining that the file identified for repair in the SIP re-invite request includes HTTP-based file repair support.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the SIP invite request includes a session description protocol (SDP) offer and a request Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) pointed to the HTTP server.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the request URI includes a user part comprising a content identifier and a domain part including a service provider domain name.

16. A non-transitory machine-readable medium that stores instructions which when performed by processing circuitry, cause the processing circuitry to perform operations comprising:

determining that a media file, downloaded over a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) bearer from an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network component, requires a file repair;

initiating a file repair session by sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) re-invite request to the IMS network component; and

sending a HTTP request to repair the media file to a file repair server identified in a SIP response message from the IMS network component.

17. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise setting up the MBMS bearer using SIP.

18. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the SIP re-invite request includes an address of an HTTP server indicated by the IMS network component as the file repair server.

19. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise downloading the media file using the MBMS bearer by utilizing a File Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (FLUTE) protocol.

20. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the IMS network component is a Service Coordination Function (SCF).

21. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein initiating the file repair session includes initiating a communication session with the IMS network component over a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network or a Long Term Evolution-Advanced network.

22. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise leaving a multicast channel to send the HTTP request to the file repair server to repair the media file.

23. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the SIP response message includes information forwarded by a HTTP to SIP adapter from the file repair server.

24. The machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein sending the HTTP request to repair the media file to the file repair server includes sending a request to re-download a subset of encoding symbols of the media file.
