Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward apparatuses, systems, and methods for delivering therapy to an adrenal gland of a patient. The apparatuses, systems, and methods may include a housing and a plurality of electrodes arranged with the housing. In addition, one or more of the plurality of electrodes may deliver stimulation energy to modulate L-dopa release.

Claims

1. A method of delivering therapy to an adrenal gland of a patient, the method comprising:

delivering a housing to an implant location between a capsule and the adrenal gland of the patient, the housing including a plurality of stimulation elements arranged with the housing; and

delivering stimulation energy through at least one of the plurality of stimulation elements to modulate aldosterone levels within the patient.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising delivering stimulation energy to peripheral sympathetic nerves to modulate a release of L-dopa into the bloodstream.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising delivering deep brain stimulation energy to the patient delivering stimulation energy.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising measuring a physical symptom of the patient associated with Parkinson'"'"'s disease and altering delivery of the stimulation energy in response thereto.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of stimulation elements are configured to deliver at least one of electrical stimulation, light stimulation, sound stimulation, thermal stimulation, and magnetic stimulation to the adrenal gland to modulate a release of naturally occurring L-dopa.

The method of claim 1, further comprising a sensor configured to measure the naturally occurring L-dopa levels within the patient and alter the stimulation energy delivered through the at least one of the plurality of stimulation elements to maintain the naturally occurring L-dopa release within a zone.

The method of claim 6, wherein the sensor is at least one of a vascular sensor configured to measure hypotension, a sensor configured to measure blood pressure of the patient, a bioimpedence sensor configured to measure blood pressure of the patient, an electoral sensor configured to assess vascular tone or heart pulse transit time, an optical sensor configured to assess vascular tone or heart pulse transit time, and an accelerometer configured to measure physical movement of the patient.

The method of claim 7, wherein the housing comprises a communications component configured to communicate wireless signals, and the sensor is configured to measure dopamine levels associated with naturally occurring L-dopa within the patient and communicate feedback to the communications component via wireless signals to alter the stimulation energy delivered through the at least one of the plurality of stimulation elements to maintain the naturally occurring L-dopa release within a zone.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of stimulation elements are configured to deliver stimulation energy according to a duty cycle that is based on a metabolization time of naturally occurring L-dopa within the patient.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the delivery of stimulation energy modulates release of naturally occurring L-dopa to lessen at least one of tremors, muscle rigidity, and bradykinesia of the patient.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of stimulation elements are configured to intermittently or continuously instruct delivery of the stimulation energy through the plurality of stimulation elements.
