1. A shipping container configured for shipping thermally active materials, the shipping container comprising:

  • a plurality of structural panels defining a container interior configured for receiving the thermally active materials, and an exterior disposed adjacent to an environment in which the shipping container is placed, wherein said plurality of structural panels includes at least a top panel, a bottom panel, and four side panels interconnected with one another to form the container interior for receiving the thermally active materials, wherein the structural panels comprise a fire retardant material;

    at least one thermal barrier member for placement between the thermally active materials and the environment in which the shipping container is placed, the thermal barrier member including a thermal barrier interior panel and a thermal barrier exterior panel defining a heat absorbing material receiving cavity;

    a flowable, polymer-based heat absorbing material disposed within the heat absorbing material receiving cavity, wherein the four side panels each include a respective thermal barrier member; and

    wherein the shipping container is configured withstand combustion of the thermally active materials to a temperature of at least 953°
