1. A portable medical device for injecting insulin into a user, comprising:
- a control circuit;
a blood glucose meter;
an electronically driven display configured to be driven by the control circuit to display a glucose concentration of a blood sample as determined by the blood glucose meter;
a user manipulable member for selectively setting a user-defined amount of insulin that the portable medical device is to inject, settings of the manipulable member include at least two settings, including;
a first setting in which no insulin is ejectable from the portable medical device and in which glucose concentration is displayed on the display, anda second setting in which the user-defined amount of insulin is ejectable from the portable medical device;
a sensor that detects change from the first setting to the second setting and wherein, upon detection of the change from the first setting to the second setting and prior to ejection of any of the user-defined amount of insulin, the control circuit controlling the electronically driven display from displaying the glucose concentration to switch off the electronically driven display; and
a second display that is configured to display the amount of insulin corresponding to a current setting of the user manipulable member.
