Abstract

A pillow is provided herein which includes a cover having opposing first and second panels. A gusset perimetrically bounds, and joins, the first and second panels. The gusset is formed of an open cell construction. Compliant fill material is disposed within the cover. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a pillow is provided allowing for lateral ventilation between opposing panels. This permits a cooling effect while a user is resting or sleeping.

Claims

1. A pillow comprising:

a cover having opposing first and second panels, and a gusset perimetrically bounding, and joining, the first and second panels, the gusset being formed by interlaced strands and having a porosity that is greater than a porosity of at least one of the first and second panels, the first and second panels and the gusset each including an inner surface, the inner surfaces defining a pocket;

an inner cover disposed within the pocket, the cover having a porosity that is greater than a porosity of the inner cover; and

a fill material disposed within the inner cover,

wherein the panels, the gusset and the inner cover each comprise polyester and are manufactured in such a way that the inner cover acts as a barrier against air flow into the fill material.

2. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are arranged randomly.

3. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are arranged in a “

x”

pattern.

4. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are arranged in a rectangular pattern.

5. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are elastic.

6. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are inelastic.

7. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are connected at points of intersection.

8. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are not connected at points of intersection.

9. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the strands are disposed in multiple layers so as to define a three-dimensional structure in a direction towards an interior of the pillow.

10. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the fill material is configured to provide the pillow with a rectangular footprint.

11. A pillow as recited in claim 1, wherein the fill material defines a core having a rectangular footprint.

12. A pillow comprising:

a cover having opposing first and second panels, and a gusset perimetrically bounding, and joining, the first and second panels, the gusset being formed by spaced apart strands and having a porosity that is at least twice greater than a porosity of at least one of the first and second panels, the first and second panels and the gusset each including an inner surface, the inner surfaces defining a pocket;

an inner cover disposed within the pocket, the cover having a porosity that is greater than a porosity of the inner cover; and

a fill material disposed within the inner cover such that the fill material is enclosed within the inner cover,

wherein the panels and the gusset each comprise polyester and the inner cover consists of polyester, the panels, the gusset and the inner cover being manufactured in such a way that the inner cover acts a barrier against air flow into the fill material, and

wherein the gusset is configured to allow air exchange about the inner cover.

13. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are arranged randomly.

14. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are arranged in a “

x”

pattern.

15. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are arranged in a rectangular pattern.

16. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are elastic.

17. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are inelastic.

18. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are connected at points of intersection.

19. A pillow as recited in claim 12, wherein the strands are not connected at points of intersection.

20. A pillow comprising:

a cover having opposing first and second panels and a gusset joining the first and second panels, the gusset being formed by interlaced strands and having a porosity that is at least twice greater than a porosity of the first panel and a porosity of the second panel, the first and second panels and the gusset each including an inner surface, the inner surfaces defining a pocket;

an inner cover disposed within the pocket, the cover having a porosity that is greater than a porosity of the inner cover; and

a fill material disposed within the inner cover,

wherein the panels, the gusset and the inner cover each comprise polyester and are manufactured in such a way that the inner cover acts as a barrier against air flow into the fill material.
