Abstract

An apparatus has a first fluid conduit, a second fluid conduit, a connector member, an first tubular member, a second tubular member, and an inner cannula. The connector member has first and second passageways in which the first and second fluid conduits are positioned, respectively. A portion of the second tubular member is positioned within the lumen of the first tubular member. A proximal portion of the inner cannula is fixedly secured within the lumen of the first tubular member. The inner cannula lumen is in fluid communication with the first and second fluid conduits via the lumen of the first tubular member and the lumen of the second tubular member. The inner cannula may be inserted into the subretinal space of a human eye to deliver a leading bleb of fluid and then deliver a therapeutic agent, without having to withdraw the inner cannula from the subretinal space between the acts of delivering the leading bleb delivering the therapeutic agent.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

(a) a body;

(b) a first fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a first fluid source, wherein the first fluid delivery assembly comprises a first conduit;

(c) a second fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a second fluid source, wherein the second fluid delivery assembly comprises a second conduit that at least partially houses the first conduit to define a gap; and

(d) an inner cannula attached to the second conduit of the second fluid delivery assembly, wherein the inner cannula comprises a proximal end, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the first fluid source via the first conduit, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the second fluid source via the gap defined by the first conduit and the second conduit, wherein the inner cannula and the second conduit are slidably attached with the body such that the inner cannula and the second conduit are configured to actuate relative to the body.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first fluid delivery assembly comprises a first supply tube extending proximally from the body.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein a portion of the first conduit is housed within the first supply tube.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the first conduit and the first supply tube are coupled together via a seal.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second fluid deliver assembly comprises a second supply tube extending proximally from the body.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, further comprising a connector, wherein the second supply tube is coupled with the connector.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the connector at least partially defines a fluid chamber, wherein the second supply tube is in fluid communication with the gap via the fluid chamber.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the first conduit is partially housed within the connector.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a slider, wherein the slider is slidably coupled with the body, wherein the slider is configured to actuate the inner cannula and the second conduit relative to the body.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an outer cannula extending away from the body, wherein the outer cannula comprises an open distal end.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein inner cannula is slidably disposed within the outer cannula such that a portion of the inner cannula may extend distally past the open distal end of the outer cannula.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first fluid delivery assembly comprises a luer fitting.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second fluid delivery assembly comprises a luer fitting.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first conduit and the second conduit are coaxial.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is coaxial with the first conduit and the second conduit.

16. An apparatus, comprising:

(a) a body extending from a proximal side to a distal side;

(b) a first fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a first fluid source, wherein the first fluid delivery assembly comprises a first conduit and a first supply tube, wherein the first supply tube extends from the proximal side of the body;

(c) a second fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a second fluid source, wherein the second fluid delivery assembly comprises a second conduit and a second supply tube, wherein the second conduit at least partially houses the first conduit to define a gap, wherein the second supply tube extends from the proximal side of the body; and

(d) an inner cannula attached to the second conduit of the second fluid delivery assembly, wherein the inner cannula comprises a proximal end, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the first fluid source via the first conduit, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the second fluid source via the gap defined by the first conduit and the second conduit, wherein the inner cannula and the second conduit are slidably attached with the body such that the inner cannula is configured to actuate relative to the body past the distal side of the body.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the inner cannula is attached to the second conduit via a seal.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, further comprising an outer cannula, wherein the inner cannular is housed within the outer cannula.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the inner cannula is slidable relative to the outer cannula.

20. An apparatus, comprising:

(a) a body;

(b) a first fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a first fluid source, wherein the first fluid delivery assembly comprises a first conduit;

(c) a second fluid delivery assembly configured to fluidly couple with a second fluid source, wherein the second fluid delivery assembly comprises a second conduit that at least partially houses the first conduit; and

(d) an inner cannula attached to the second conduit of the second fluid delivery assembly, wherein the inner cannula comprises a proximal end, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the first fluid source via the first conduit, wherein the proximal end of the inner cannula is in fluid communication with the second fluid source via the second conduit, wherein the inner cannula and the second conduit are slidably attached with the body such that the inner cannula and the second conduit are configured to actuate relative to the body.
