1. A wheel event for a wagering game comprising:
- displaying a wheel having an initial number of segments having associated awards, each of said initial segments having an initial size;
initiating a wheel segment selection event;
causing two or more of said segments to merge together into a merged segment, creating one or more combined segments having a size which is greater than said initial size of said two or more segments which were merged;
setting an award of the merged segment to have a value different from values of the awards of the two or more segments; and
displaying a selected segment from said final number of segments and its associated award.
