- transmitting, by a controller, to a security system, and via a plurality of protocols, a plurality of probe messages;
receiving, by the controller, from the security system, and via a protocol of the plurality of protocols, a response to at least one probe message of the plurality of probe messages, wherein two or more components of the security system are configured to communicate via the protocol;
receiving, by the controller and via the protocol, configuration information associated with the security system;
receiving, by the controller, from the security system, and via the protocol, a sensor signal indicating a status of a sensor of the security system;
determining, based on the configuration information and the sensor signal, an interpreted sensor message; and
transmitting, by the controller and based on the configuration information, an alarm message indicating the interpreted sensor message.
