Sleep-state for mobile terminal and service initiation for mobile terminals in sleep-state
First Claim
1. A core network entity capable of communicating with a mobile terminal via a first or second access network, wherein radio access technology of the first access network is different from radio access technology of the second access network, the core network entity comprising:
- a transmitter which, in operation, transmits a paging request addressed to the mobile terminal, wherein the paging request is to be routed through the first access network but is rerouted through the second access network when the mobile terminal is attached to the second access network; and
circuitry, which is coupled to the transmitter and which, during service provision to the mobile terminal via the second access network, configures system resources for service provision to the mobile terminal via the first access network by determining radio access parameters, wherein the radio access parameters are determined based on a type of the radio access technology of the first access network and include at least frequency information for use by the mobile terminal to connect to the first access network;
wherein the transmitter, in operation, transmits a handover command which includes the frequency information through the second access network to the mobile terminal, the handover command directing the mobile terminal to connect to the first access network.

Abstract
The invention relates to the initiation of a service to a mobile terminal capable of communicating via at least a first and second access network. Further, the invention relates to a reduction of power consumption of mobile terminals supporting connectivity to at least two access networks. The invention also relates to mobile communication systems and in particular to mobile communications through heterogeneous access networks. In order to prove improved method for initiating services to mobile terminals and/or to reduce power consumption of mobile terminals, the invention introduces of a sleep state that can be entered by the terminal for an access system if same is not used. Upon requesting a service from/to the mobile terminal, the mobile terminal starts service initiation through a second access system and transits back to active state for the first access system for service provision.
