1. A method for determining a respective level of user engagement based on user interactions, the method comprising:

  • at a computer having a processor;

    retrieving a first record of a first plurality of user inputs received during a first time interval of a display of a first media asset, wherein the first record indicates an input type for each of the first plurality of user inputs;

    retrieving a second record of a second plurality of user inputs received during a second time interval of a display of a second media asset, wherein the second time interval is different than the first time interval and wherein the second record indicates an input type for each of the second plurality of user inputs;

    determining, by the processor, a first frequency of each input type of the first plurality of user inputs during the first time interval;

    determining, by the processor, a second frequency of each input type of the second plurality of user inputs during the second time interval;

    determining, by the processor, the respective level of user engagement during the first time interval for the first media asset, wherein determining the respective level of user engagement includes;

    comparing, by the processor, the first frequency of each input type in the first plurality of user inputs with a corresponding second frequency of each input type in the second plurality of user inputs;

    calculating, by the processor, respective percent differences between the first frequency of each input type in the first plurality of user inputs and the corresponding second frequency in the second plurality of user inputs; and

    determining, by the processor, the respective level of user engagement for the first media asset based on the respective percent differences;

    identifying, by the processor, a third media asset based on the respective level of user engagement for the first media asset; and

    causing display of the third media asset.
