Abstract

A wireless access point transmits a protocol data unit (PDU) that includes data and signaling for a plurality of user devices. The PDU spans a channel in frequency and an interval in time, and includes a first signaling section, a second signaling section and a traffic action. For each of a plurality of subchannels of the channel: the first signaling section includes (within the subchannel) a corresponding redundant copy of common signaling information for the user devices associated with the access point; the second signaling section includes (within the subchannel) a corresponding set of user-specific signaling information for a corresponding group of one or more of the user devices; and the traffic section includes (within the subchannel) a corresponding set of traffic data for the corresponding group of one or more user devices. Subchannels sizes may be configurable. A signaling set CRC may be included per subchannel.

Claims

1. A method for operating an access point, the method comprising:

at the access point;

generating a wireless protocol data unit (PDU), spanning a channel in frequency and an interval in time and including an HE-SIG-B;

encoding, in the HE-SIG-B, for a plurality of subchannels of the channel;

a common information field; and

a user specific field, including a cyclic redundancy check; and

transmitting the wireless PDU.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein a first cyclic redundancy check of a first subchannel of the plurality of subchannels allows the common information field and the user specific field of the first subchannel to be checked independently of other subchannels of the plurality of subchannels.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said encoding is performed in parallel.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said encoding is performed in sequence.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein one or more tail bits are also encoded in the HE-SIG-B for the plurality of subchannels and reset an encoder of the access point.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the common information field includes groupwise common information.

7. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising:

at the access point;

encoding, for the plurality of subchannels, a traffic section.

8. A user equipment device (UE), comprising:

a receiver; and

a processor operably coupled to the receiver, wherein the processor is configured to cause the UE to;

receive, via the receiver, at least a portion of a wireless protocol data unit (PDU), spanning a channel in frequency and an interval in time and including an HE-SIG-B, the HE-SIG-B including, for a plurality of subchannels of the channel;

a common information field; and

a user specific field, including a cyclic redundancy check; and

decode, for at least a first subchannel of the plurality of subchannels, the HE-SIG-B.

9. The UE of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to:

check the decoded HE-SIG-B for the first subchannel using a first cyclic redundancy check of the first subchannel.

10. The UE of claim 9, wherein the first cyclic redundancy check of the first subchannel of the plurality of subchannels allows the common information field and the user specific field of the first subchannel to be checked independently of other subchannels of the plurality of subchannels.

11. The UE of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to:

ignore an HE-SIG-B for a second subchannel of the plurality of subchannels.

The UE of claim 8, wherein said decoding further includes decoding the HE-SIG-B of at least a second subchannel of the plurality of subchannels, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to extract data corresponding to the HE-SIG-B of an assigned subchannel of the plurality of subchannels.

13. The UE of claim 8, wherein one or more tail bits are also encoded in the HE-SIG-B for the plurality of subchannels.

14. The UE of claim 8, wherein the common information field includes groupwise common information.

15. An apparatus for managing a user equipment device (UE), the apparatus comprising:

a processor configured to cause the UE to;

receive at least a portion of a wireless protocol data unit (PDU), spanning a channel in frequency and an interval in time and including an HE-SIG-B, the HE-SIG-B including, for a plurality of subchannels of the channel;

a common information field; and

a user specific field, including a cyclic redundancy check; and

decode, for at least a first subchannel of the plurality of subchannels, the HE-SIG-B.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to:

check the decoded HE-SIG-B for the first subchannel using a first cyclic redundancy check of the first subchannel.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the first cyclic redundancy check of the first subchannel of the plurality of subchannels allows the common information field and the user specific field of the first subchannel to be checked independently of other subchannels of the plurality of subchannels.

18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the HE-SIG-B for the first subchannel is the only HE-SIG-B decoded during the interval in time.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said decoding further includes decoding the HE-SIG-B of at least a second subchannel of the plurality of subchannels, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to extract data corresponding to the HE-SIG-B of an assigned subchannel of the plurality of subchannels.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the wireless PDU further includes a traffic section, wherein the processor is further configured cause the UE to:

decode a traffic section of the first subchannel; and

ignore a traffic section of a second subchannel of the plurality of subchannels.
