Abstract

An editing apparatus or method, when applied in particular to a simple editing system using an information processing apparatus, such as a personal computer, makes possible execution of various aspects of editing in a simple configuration. Only partial video signals required for the setting of editing points are transferred to working memory means to enable the result of editing to be previewed.

Claims

1. An editing apparatus comprising:

a playback controller for effecting control to selectively enter video signals, which are to be edited, as instructed by an operator from a playback side memory apparatus in which the video signals are recorded;

memory means for recording said selectively entered video signals;

a list generator for generating an editing list on the basis of the video signals recorded in said memory means and editing commands given by the operator regarding said video signals; and

an edit processor for controlling, on the basis of said editing list, the playback side memory apparatus to edit said video signals to be edited.

2. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 1

, wherein:

said memory means reduces the resolution of said video signals when recording said video signals.

3. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 2

, wherein:

said edit processor enters video signals in a position to be processed with a special effect, from the playback side memory apparatus, without reducing their resolution, and

filters and outputs said entered video signals.

4. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 3

, wherein:

said filtering is to synthesize and output a plurality of video signals entered from the playback side memory apparatus.

5. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 1

, wherein:

said list generator has a previewer for effecting control to display video signals recorded in said memory means, and

said previewer performs control to display, for video signals not recorded in said memory means, a still picture composed of video signals recorded in said memory means.

6. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 1

, wherein:

said list generator has a previewer for performing control to display video signals recorded in said memory means, and

said previewer performs control to display, for video signals not recorded in said memory means, the time code of the video signals.

7. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 1

, wherein:

said edit processor enters video signals in a position to be processed with a special effect, from the playback side memory apparatus, and

filters and outputs said entered video signals.

8. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 7

, wherein:

said filtering is to synthesize and output a plurality of video signals entered from the playback side memory apparatus.

9. An editing apparatus for recording video signals recorded in the playback side memory apparatus, comprising:

a controller for planning the order of recording so as to minimize the frequency of changing recording media in the playback side memory apparatus; and

an edit processor for controlling, on the basis of said planning, the actions of a recording side memory apparatus and of the playback side memory apparatus to perform editing.

10. An editing apparatus as claimed in

claim 9

, wherein:

said controller plans the order of recording so that said recording media be changed in the playback side memory apparatus in either the ascending or the descending order of playback duration.

11. An editing method whereby:

video signals which are to be edited, are selectively entered as instructed by the operator from the playback side memory apparatus in which the video signals are recorded;

said selectively entered video signals are recorded;

an editing list is generated on the basis of the video signals recorded in said memory and editing commands given by the operator regarding said video signals; and

the playback memory apparatus is controlled to edit said video signals to be edited on the basis of said editing list.

12. An editing method as claimed in

claim 11

, wherein:

the resolution of said video signals is reduced when recording said selectively entered video signals.

13. An editing method as claimed in

claim 12

, wherein:

said editing comprises entry of video signals in a position to be processed with a special effect, from the playback side memory apparatus, without reducing their resolution, and

filtering and outputting of said entered video signals.

14. An editing method as claimed in

claim 13

, wherein:

said filtering is to synthesize and output a plurality of video signals entered from the playback side memory apparatus.

15. An editing method as claimed in

claim 11

, wherein:

control is further performed to display said selectively entered and recorded video signals and, for unrecorded video signals, to display a still picture composed of said recorded video signals.

16. An editing method as claimed in

claim 11

, wherein:

control is further performed to display said selectively entered and recorded video signals and, for unrecorded video signals, to display the time code of the video signals.

17. An editing method as claimed in

, wherein:

said editing comprises entry of video signals in a position to be processed with a special effect, from the playback side memory apparatus, and

filtering and outputting of said entered video signals.

18. An editing method as claimed in

claim 17

, wherein:

said filtering is to synthesize and output a plurality of video signals entered from said playback side memory apparatus.

19. An editing method for recording video signals recorded in the playback side memory apparatus, whereby:

the order of recording is planned so as to minimize the frequency of changing recording media in the playback side memory apparatus; and

editing is performed by controlling, on the basis of said planning, the actions of the recording side memory apparatus and of the playback side memory apparatus.

20. An editing method as claimed in

claim 19

, wherein:

said planning is accomplished to determine the order of recording so that said recording media be changed in the playback side memory apparatus in either the ascending or the descending order of playback duration.
