Abstract

In a data processing system, device, and method and a program storage medium, provided are data storage devices that store data and a data processing device that receives a list describing information about data stored in the data storage devices from the data storage devices and that receives and processes data selected based on the received list. Accordingly, a large amount of data can be processed with the data processing device irrespective of storage capacity of storage means.

Claims

1. A data processing system comprising:

a first data storage device for storing predetermined data via a wireless communication means;

a data processing device for receiving a list of information about said data stored in said first data storage device from said first data storage device to display the list in a display section, and for receiving a portion of said data selected out of the list from said first data storage device using a wireless communication means that can communicate with said wireless communication means in said first data storage device and processing the portion of data.

2. The data processing system according to

claim 1

further comprising:

a second data storage device connected onto a network via a wireless telephone network for storing predetermined data; and

wherein said data processing device receives a list of information about said data stored in said first data storage device and said second storage device from said first data storage device to display the list in a display section, and receives a portion of said data selected out of said list from said first data storage device or said second data storage device using a wireless communication means that can communicate with said wireless communication means in said first data storage device or using a wireless telephone communication means that can communicate with said wireless telephone network and processes the portion of said data.

3. The data processing system according to

claim 1

further comprising:

a second data storage device connected onto a network via a wireless telephone network for storing predetermined data; and

wherein said data processing device receives a list of information about said data stored in said first data storage device and said second storage device from said second data storage device to display the list in a display section, and receives a portion of said data selected out of said list from said first data storage device or said second data storage device using a wireless communication means that can communicate with said wireless communication means in said first data storage device or using a wireless telephone communication means that can communicate with said wireless telephone network and processes the portion of said data.

4. The data processing system according to

claim 1

wherein said data processing device receives said selected portion of data from data storage device to store the portion of data in said storage means and reads out the portion of data from said storage means to perform said processing after completion of storage.

5. The data processing system according to

claim 1

wherein said data processing device receives said selected portion of data from data storage device to store the portion of data in said storage means and reads out the portion of data by a predetermined amount from said storage means to perform said processing after completion of storage.

6. A data processing device comprising:

wireless communication means for performing short-range wireless communication with a data storage device;

a display section for displaying a list on data that is stored in said data storage device and received from said data storage device;

storage means for receiving a portion of said data selected out of said list from said data storage device and storing the portion of said data; and

data processing means for performing a predetermined process using said received data.

7. The data processing device according to

claim 6

further comprising:

wireless telephone communication means for performing communication via a wireless telephone network.

8. The data processing device according to

claim 6

further comprising:

wireless telephone communication means for communicating via a wireless telephone network with a second data storage device connected onto a network that stores predetermined data; and

wherein said display section displays a list on data which is stored in said first data storage device and received from said first storage device and data which is stored in said second data storage device and wherein said wireless communication means communicates with a first storage device, and wherein said storage means receives a portion of data selected out of said list from said first data storage device and said second data storage device and then storing the portion of said data.

9. The data processing device according to

claim 8

wherein data stored in said first data storage means and data stored in said second data storage means are music data and wherein said data processing means reproduces received music data and wherein an earphone is provided for outputting reproduced music data.

10. The data processing device according to

claim 8

wherein data stored in said first data storage means and data stored in said second data storage means are moving image data and wherein said data processing means reproduces received image data and displays reproduced image data on a display section.

11. The data processing system according to

claim 10

wherein said data processing device receives said selected portion of data from said data storage devices to store the portion of data in said storage means and reads out the portion of data from said storage means by a predetermined amount to perform said processing before completion of storage.

12. A data processing method comprising the steps of:

receiving a list on data stored in a first data storage device and data stored in a second data storage device connected onto a network via a wireless telephone network for storing predetermined data from said first data storage device using wireless communication means;

displaying said received list;

requesting a portion of data selected from said list from said first data storage device or said second data storage device using said wireless communication means or wireless telephone communication means;

storing said received data; and

performing a predetermined process using said received data.

13. The data processing method according to

claim 12

wherein said step of receiving a list comprises receiving a list on data stored in a first data storage device and data stored in a second data storage device connected onto a network via a wireless telephone network for storing predetermined data, from said second data storage device using wireless communication means.

14. A program storage medium for making a data processing device execute a program, said program comprising the steps of:

receiving a list on data stored in a first data storage device and data stored in a second data storage device connected to a network via a wireless telephone network for storing predetermined data from said first data storage device using wireless communication means;

displaying said received list;

requesting a portion of data selected from said list from said first data storage device or said second data storage device using said wireless communication means or wireless telephone communication means;

storing said received data; and

performing a predetermined process using said received data.
