Abstract

A wireless detection system for monitoring a predetermined area for an emergency situation. The wireless smoke detection system includes a plurality of detector units strategically positioned throughout the monitored area. Each of the plurality of detector units include a detector for sensing one of a characteristic and condition within a section of the monitored area and generating a signal indicative of the monitored. A signal processor is connected within each detector unit for analyzing the signal generated by the detector and upon determining if the signal is above a predetermined level generating an emergency signal. A transmitter is provided for transmitting the emergency signal to a plurality of receiver units strategically positioned about the monitoring area. Each receiver unit includes an alarm for generating an alarm signal and thereby alert persons to the emergency situation at a position within the monitored area. The detector can be at least one of a photoelectric smoke detector, an ionization type detector, a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector, a near infrared detector and a hazard detector.

Claims

1. A wireless detection system for monitoring a predetermined area for an emergency situation, said wireless smoke detection system comprising a detector unit and a plurality of receiver units strategically position throughout the monitored area, said detector units comprising:

a) means for detecting one of a characteristic and condition within a section of the monitored area and generating a signal indicative of the monitored;

b) signal processing means for analyzing said signal generated by said detecting means and upon determining if the signal is above a predetermined level generating an emergency signal;

c) means for transmitting said emergency signal; and

d) means for generating an alarm signal upon receipt of said emergency signal from said signal processing means, said alarm signal alerting persons of an emergency situation at a position within the monitored area; and

each of said plurality of receiver units includes;

a) means for receiving said emergency signal generated by any of said plurality of detector units; and

b) means connected to said receiving means for generating an alarm signal upon receipt of said emergency signal.

2. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 1

, wherein each of said detectors further include means for encoding said emergency signal prior to transmission by said transmission means.

3. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 2

, wherein each of said receivers further include means for decoding said emergency signal upon receipt by said receiver means.

4. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 1

, wherein each of said plurality of detectors are one of a near infrared smoke detector, a photoelectric smoke detector, an ionization type detector, a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector and a hazard detector.

5. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 1

, wherein said means for generating an alarm of said plurality of detector units includes an audible alarm generator and a visual alarm generator.

6. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 1

, wherein said means for generating an alarm of said plurality of receiver units includes an audible alarm generator.

7. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 5

, wherein said visual alarm generator is an LED.

, wherein said audible alarm generator is a horn.

10. A detector unit for monitoring at least one condition within a predefined area and communicating with at least one receiver unit within the predefined area to alert persons within the predefined area as to detection of an emergency situation, said detector comprising:

a) means for detecting the at least one condition within the predefined area and generating a signal indicative of the monitored condition;

b) signal processing means for analyzing said signal generated by said detecting means and upon determining if the signal is above a predetermined level generating an emergency signal;

c) means for transmitting said emergency signal to the at least one receiver unit located within the predefined area; and

d) means for generating an alarm signal upon receipt of said emergency signal from said signal processing means, said alarm signal alerting persons of an emergency situation at a position within the monitored area.

11. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 10

, wherein each of said detectors further include means for encoding said emergency signal prior to transmission by said transmission means.

12. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

claim 10

, wherein said detector is one of a near infrared smoke detector, a photoelectric smoke detector, an ionization type detector, a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector and a hazard detector.

13. The wireless smoke detection system as recited in

, wherein said means for generating an alarm includes an audible alarm generator and a visual alarm generator.
