Abstract

A system and method for analyzing patient information for use in automated patient care is described. One or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis are retrieved from a patient care record. The physiological measures retrieved from one such patient care record are analyzed to determine a patient status. Each physiological measure is representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information.

Claims

1. A system for analyzing patient information for use in automated patient care, comprising:

a database storing patient care records with each record containing one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis; and

an analysis module analyzing the physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status.

2. A system according to

, further comprising:

a medical device having a sensor for monitoring and recording the physiological measures from an anatomical site at least one of directly and derivatively.

3. A system according to

claim 2

, further comprising:

at least one further sensor monitoring and recording the physiological measures from an anatomical site unique from the anatomical site monitored by any other such sensor; and

the analysis module determining the patient status by comparing physiological measures retrieved from one such patient care record for a plurality of sensors.

, further comprising:

the database storing patient care records with each record containing physiological measures from sensors monitoring one or more anatomical sites within the individual patient; and

the analysis module analyzing the physiological measures from one such patient care record relative to the anatomical sites.

the analysis module analyzing the physiological measures and the contemporaneously recorded quality of life measures retrieved from one such patient care record to determine the patient status.

10. An system according to

claim 1

, further comprising:

the database storing patient care records with each record containing one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information recorded during an initial observation period; and

the analysis module determining one or more reference measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, from the physiological measures retrieved from one such patient care record and storing the reference measures into the one such patient care record indicating a reference baseline patient status.

11. A method for analyzing patient information for use in automated patient care, comprising:

retrieving one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis from a patient care record; and

analyzing the physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status.

12. A method according to

, further comprising:

obtaining the physiological measures from a medical device having a sensor for monitoring the physiological measures from an anatomical site at least one of directly and derivatively.

13. A method according to

, further comprising:

obtaining the physiological measures monitored by at least one further sensor monitoring the physiological measures from an anatomical site unique from the anatomical site monitored by any other such sensor; and

determining the patient status by comparing physiological measures retrieved from one such patient care record for a plurality of sensors.

, further comprising:

receiving the physiological measures from sensors monitoring one or more anatomical sites within the individual patient; and

analyzing the physiological measures from one such patient care record relative to the anatomical sites.

, further comprising:

retrieving one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information recorded during an initial observation period from a patient care record; and

determining one or more reference measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, from the physiological measures retrieved from one such patient care record; and

storing the reference measures into the one such patient care record indicating a reference baseline patient status.

21. A computer-readable storage medium for a device holding code for performing the method according to claims 11, 12, 14, 19, and 20.

22. A system for collecting physiological measures for use in automated patient care, comprising:

a medical device having a sensor for monitoring and recording one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information from an anatomical site at least one of directly and derivatively; and

a database storing patient care records with each record containing the physiological measures.

, the remote client further comprising:

an analysis module analyzing the physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status.

the analysis module analyzing the physiological measures from sensors monitoring a plurality of anatomical sites within an individual patient relative to each anatomical site.

25. A method for collecting physiological measures for use in automated patient care, comprising:

obtaining one or more physiological measures relating to individual patient information from a medical device having a sensor for monitoring and recording from an anatomical site at least one of directly and derivatively; and

storing the physiological measures in patient care records.

analyzing the physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information, retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status.

29. A system for providing tiered patient feedback for use in automated patient care, comprising:

an analysis module analyzing physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis and retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status; and

a feedback module providing tiered feedback to an individual patient responsive to the patient status.

the feedback module communicating an interpretation of the patient status to the individual patient at a first level of feedback.

analyzing physiological measures, each representative of at least one of measured and derived patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis and retrieved from one such patient care record to determine a patient status; and

providing tiered feedback to an individual patient responsive to the patient status.
