Abstract

A liquid crystal display module includes a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, an illuminating device disposed behind the liquid crystal display panel, an upper frame, and a lower frame. The upper and lower frames fix therebetween the liquid crystal display panel and the illuminating device as an integral unit in cooperation with each other. The upper frame is provided with at least one recessed portion in a sidewall thereof, the at least one recessed portion is set back in a direction parallel with major surfaces of the substrates from the sidewall, and a bottom of the at least one recessed portion is provided with a tapped hole adapted for engagement with a screw for mounting the liquid crystal display module to external equipment.

Claims

1. A liquid crystal display module comprising:

a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates;

an illuminating device disposed behind said liquid crystal display panel;

an upper frame; and

a lower frame,

said upper frame and said lower frame fixing therebetween said liquid crystal display panel and said illuminating device as an integral unit in cooperation with each other, and

said upper frame being provided with at least one recessed portion in a sidewall thereof, said at least one recessed portion being set back in a direction parallel with major surfaces of said pair of substrates from said sidewall, and

a bottom of said at least one recessed portion being provided with a tapped hole adapted for engagement with a screw for mounting said liquid crystal display module to external equipment.

2. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 1, wherein said at least one recessed portion includes at least two recessed portions each disposed at respective corners of said upper frame.

3. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 1, wherein said at least one recessed portion is disposed between adjacent corners of said upper frame.

4. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 1, wherein said at least one recessed portion includes a recessed portion at a corner of said upper frame and a recessed portion disposed between adjacent corners of said upper frame.

5. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 2, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

6. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 3, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

7. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 4, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

8. A liquid crystal display monitor including said liquid crystal display module according to claim 1, further comprising a module receiving member made of a metal, wherein said module receiving member is provided with a hole for passing said screw therethrough for affixing said liquid crystal display module to said module receiving member, and thereby said liquid crystal display module is mounted to said external equipment via said module receiving member.

9. A liquid crystal display module comprising:

a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates;

an illuminating device disposed behind said liquid crystal display panel;

an upper frame; and

a lower frame,

said upper frame and said lower frame fixing therebetween said liquid crystal display panel and said illuminating device as an integral unit in cooperation with each other, and

said upper frame being provided with at least one recessed portion in a sidewall thereof, said at least one recessed portion being set back in a direction parallel with major surfaces of said pair of substrates from said sidewall,

a bottom of said at least one recessed portion being provided with a hole adapted for passing therethrough a screw for mounting said liquid crystal display module to external equipment, and

a portion of said lower frame facing said hole being provided with a tapped hole adapted for engagement with said screw.

10. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 9, wherein said at least one recessed portion includes at least two recessed portions each disposed at respective corners of said upper frame.

11. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 9, wherein said at least one recessed portion is disposed between adjacent corners of said upper frame.

12. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 9, wherein said at least one recessed portion includes a recessed portion at a corner of said upper frame and a recessed portion disposed between adjacent corners of said upper frame.

13. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 10, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

14. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 11, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

15. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 12, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

16. A liquid crystal display monitor including said liquid crystal display module according to claim 9, further comprising a module receiving member made of a metal, wherein said module receiving member is provided with a hole for passing said screw therethrough for affixing said liquid crystal display module to said module receiving member, and thereby said liquid crystal display module is mounted to said external equipment via said module receiving member.

17. A liquid crystal display module comprising:

a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates;

an illuminating device disposed behind said liquid crystal display panel;

an upper frame; and

a lower frame,

said upper frame and said lower frame fixing therebetween said liquid crystal display panel and said illuminating device as an integral unit in cooperation with each other, and

said lower frame being provided with at least one tapped hole in a rear surface thereof adapted for engagement with a screw for mounting said liquid crystal display module to external equipment.

18. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 17, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

19. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 17, wherein said illuminating device comprises a plurality of line light sources arranged behind said liquid crystal display panel and a reflector having continuous corrugations formed by gentle peaks and valleys and disposed behind said plurality of line light sources, and said at least one tapped hole is disposed in a portion of said lower frame corresponding to one of said peaks.

20. A liquid crystal display module according to claim 19, wherein said lower frame is molded of resin material, and said tapped hole is provided in one of said resin material and a metal insert embedded in said resin material.

21. A liquid crystal display monitor including said liquid crystal display module according to claim 17, further comprising a module receiving member made of a metal, wherein said module receiving member is provided with a hole for passing said screw therethrough for affixing said liquid crystal display module to said module receiving member, and thereby said liquid crystal display module is mounted to said external equipment via said module receiving member.

22. A liquid crystal display monitor comprising:

a liquid crystal display module including a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, a first frame and a second frame, said first and second frames fixing said liquid crystal display panel therebetween in cooperation with each other,

said first frame being provided with a first sidewall extending along a periphery of said pair of substrates and in a direction of a thickness of said liquid crystal display panel outside of said second frame,

said first sidewall being provided with at least one recessed portion set back inwardly from said first sidewall; and

a housing having a mounting structure facing said at least one recessed portion,

said mounting structure being provided with a screw directed toward said at least one recessed portion such that said liquid crystal display panel is fixed to said housing.

23. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 22, wherein said liquid crystal display monitor further comprises a member disposed between said mounting structure and said recessed portion for passing said screw therethrough.

24. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 22, wherein said second frame is provided with a second sidewall facing said at least one recessed portion of said first sidewall of said first frame, a bottom of said at least one recessed portion and said second sidewall are provided with holes for passing said screw threthrough, and said hole in at least one of said bottom and said second sidewall is tapped for engagement of said screw.

25. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 22, wherein at least one of said first and second frames is provided with an opening for exposing at least a central area of a corresponding one of said pair of substrates.

26. A liquid crystal display monitor comprising:

a liquid crystal display module including a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, a first frame and a second frame, said first and second frames fixing said liquid crystal display panel therebetween in cooperation with each other,

said first frame being provided with a sidewall extending along a periphery of said pair of substrates and in a direction of a thickness of said liquid crystal display panel outside of said second frame; and

a housing having a mounting structure facing an outer surface of said first frame and mounting said liquid crystal display panel to said housing, said mounting structure being provided with at least one screw directed toward said sidewall of said first frame for affixing said liquid crystal display panel to said mounting structure,

wherein each of said sidewall of said first frame and said mounting structure is provided with a hole for passing each of said at least one screw therethrough, a sidewall of said second frame is provided with a tapped hole for engagement with said at least one screw, and a thickness of said sidewall of said second frame at least in the vicinity of said tapped hole is greater than that of said sidewall of said first frame in the vicinity of said hole provided therein.

27. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 26, wherein said tapped hole is provided in an insert embedded in said second frame.

28. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 26, wherein said first frame is provided with an opening for exposing at least a central area of one of said pair of substrates.

29. A liquid crystal display monitor comprising:

a liquid crystal display module including a first frame, a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, an illuminating device disposed behind said liquid crystal display panel, and a second frame arranged in the order named, said first and second frames fixing said liquid crystal display panel and said illuminating device therebetween in cooperation with each other;

a housing having a mounting structure facing a rear surface of said second frame and mounting said liquid crystal display panel to said housing, said mounting structure being provided with at least one hole for passing at least one screw therethrough for affixing said liquid crystal display panel to said mounting structure,

said rear surface of said second frame being provided with at least one tapped hole for engagement of each of said at least one screw, and a thickness of said rear surface of said second frame in the vicinity of said at least one tapped hole being greater than that of the remainder of said rear surface.

30. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 29, wherein said illuminating device comprises a plurality of line light sources arranged behind said liquid crystal display panel and a reflector disposed behind said plurality of line light sources, said reflector is shaped to have portions protruding toward said liquid crystal display panel between said plurality of line light sources and portions convex toward said second frame behind said plurality of line light sources, and said at least one tapped hole is provided in portions of said second frame corresponding to said portions of said reflector protruding toward said liquid crystal display panel.

31. A liquid crystal display monitor according to claim 29, wherein said first frame is provided with an opening for exposing at least a central area of one of said pair of substrates.
