A system for communicating information related to the position of a mobile station within a wireless communication infrastructure, comprising a data server capable of communicating with the wireless communication infrastructure, wherein the mobile station and the data server communicate via the wireless communication infrastructure using formatted messages representing wireless communication infrastructure state information related to the position of the mobile station within the service area of the wireless communication infrastructure.
