1. A method of assigning a network address to a network access device connected to an access network infrastructure connected to a plurality of service networks, comprising the steps of:

  • receiving a request from a subscriber operating a network access device selecting a service provided by a service network and subscribed to by the subscriber;

    allocating a network address from a pool of addresses allocated to subscribers of the service;

    assigning the network address to the network access device using a host configuration protocol wherein the network address is utilized by the access network infrastructure to forward packets from the network access device to the service network providing the selected service.
