Abstract

Systems and methods for building media lists are provided in which media may be tagged, listed and subsequently accessed. Media indicators such as advertisements promotions, programming embedded merchandise, and other suitable indicators may be displayed to promote various media such as television programming, pay-per-view programming, video-on-demand programming, Web sites, and any other suitable programming. Users may tag the media associated with media indicators for inclusion in a media list. This media list may be presented to the user so that user can select and view media associated with a media indicator previously stored in the list. This may provide users with ability to store a list of opportunities of interest, and to view the information related to the opportunities at a later time.

Claims

1. A method of building and using media lists, comprising:

displaying an advertisement;

providing a user with an opportunity to designate the addition of media associated with the advertisement to a media list;

presenting the media list to the user for selection; and

retrieving the media for an item in the media list upon user selection from the media list.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising designating the media to be added without interrupting current display activity.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with an opportunity to perform an activity related to the media.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with the opportunity to purchase the media.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with the opportunity to purchase a product related to the media.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with the opportunity to record the media.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with the opportunity to set a reminder for viewing the media.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the user with the opportunity to view the media.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising targeting the advertisement to be displayed to the user.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the advertisement is a video.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the advertisement is interactive.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the advertisement is from the Internet.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the advertisement is contained in a program guide listing.

14. The method of claim 1 further comprising storing a preview associated with the media.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising retrieving and displaying the preview upon user selection from the media list.

16. The method of claim 1 further comprising storing a trailer associated with the media.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising retrieving and displaying the trailer upon user selection from the media list.

18. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing multiple media lists for multiple users.

19. The method of claim 1 further comprising determining the status of the availability of the media upon user selection.

20. The method of claim 19 further comprising indicating availability of the media to the user.

21. The method of claim 19 further comprising providing the user with an opportunity to retain currently unavailable media on the media list.

22. The method of claim 21 further comprising notifying the user when the media becomes available for viewing.

24. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the user equipment is configured to add the listing when the user indicates an interest in that product when the video including that product is being displayed.

25. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the user equipment is configured to automatically add the listing based on a user profile when the video including that product is being displayed.

26. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the user equipment is configured to display the media list to allow the user to select items on the list.

27. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to display the particular user-accessible media that is associated with the product when the user selects the listing for that particular user-selectable media from the media list.

28. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the user equipment is configured to build the media list to be a master list of media that is stored for the user for later access by the user.

29. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings for television programs.

30. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings for movies.

31. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings for video-on-demand programming.

32. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings for Internet Web sites.

33. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings media associated with interactive advertisements.

34. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the user equipment is configured to include in the media list listings for reminders.

36. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions for designating the media to be added occurs without interrupting current display activity.

37. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 further comprising providing the user with an opportunity to perform an activity related to the media.

38. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions provide the user with the opportunity to purchase the media.

39. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions provide the user with the opportunity to purchase a product related to the media.

40. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions provide the user with the opportunity to record the media.

41. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions provide the user with the opportunity to set a reminder for viewing the media.

42. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 further wherein the instructions provide the user with the opportunity to view the media.

43. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions target the advertisement to b e displayed to the user.

44. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the advertisement is a video.

45. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the advertisement is interactive.

46. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the advertisement is on the Internet.

47. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the advertisement is contained in a program guide listing.

48. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions store a preview associated with the media.

49. The computer readable storage media of claim 48 wherein the instructions retrieve and display the preview upon user selection from the media list.

50. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions store a trailer associated with the media.

51. The computer readable storage media of claim 50 wherein the instructions retrieve and display the trailer upon user selection from the media list.

52. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions provide multiple media lists for multiple users.

53. The computer readable storage media of claim 35 wherein the instructions determine the status of the availability of the media upon user selection.

54. The computer readable storage media of claim 53 wherein the instructions indicate availability of the media to the user.

55. The computer readable storage media of claim 53 wherein the instructions provide the user with an opportunity to retain currently unavailable media on the media list.

56. The computer readable storage media of claim 55 wherein the instructions notify the user when the media becomes available for viewing.

58. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for adding the listing when the user indicates an interest in that product when the video including that product is being displayed.

59. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for automatically adding the listing based on a user profile when the video including that product is being displayed.

60. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for displaying the media list to allow the user to select items on the list.

61. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein the user equipment has means for displaying the particular user-accessible media that is associated with the product when the user selects the listing for that particular user-selectable media from the media list.

62. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for building the media list to be a master list of media that is stored for the user for later access by the user.

63. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment is to include in the media list listings for television programs.

64. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means configured for including in the media list listings for movies.

65. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for including in the media list listings for video-on-demand programming.

66. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for including in the media list listings for Internet Web sites.

67. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for including in the media list listings media associated with the with interactive advertisements.

68. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein the user equipment has means for including in the media list listings for reminders.

23. An apparatus comprising user equipment that is configured to:

display one of a number of videos wherein at least one of the videos includes a scene in which a product is shown that is associated a particular user-accessible media for that product; and

add a listing for that particular user-accessible media that is associated with the product to a media list when the video of the scene that includes that product is displayed to the user.

35. Computer readable storage media, comprising:

instructions for displaying an advertisement;

instructions for providing a user with an opportunity to designate the addition of media associated with the advertisement to a media list;

instructions for presenting the media list to the user for selection; and

instructions for retrieving the media for an item in the media list upon user selection from the media list.

57. An apparatus comprising user equipment, the apparatus comprising:

means for displaying one of a number of videos wherein at least one of the videos includes a scene in which a product is shown that is associated a particular user-accessible media for that product; and

means for adding a listing for that particular user-accessible media that is associated with the product to a media list when the video of the scene that includes that product is displayed to the user.
