Abstract

A method and system for performing a cash transaction with a self-service financial transaction terminal makes use of computer hardware and software that allows a financial institution cardholder to authorize a recipient to withdraw a specified amount of cash at an ATM of the particular financial institution. The cardholder can set up the transaction, for example, from any telephone using an interactive voice response (IVR) system, or by utilizing the application at a financial institution ATM, or by using an Internet website application. The originator can set up the recipient'"'"'s ATM transaction to be either cardless or card-initiated.

Claims

1. A method for performing a cash transaction with a self-service financial transaction terminal, comprising:

allowing an originator to access a financial institution server via an access portal;

receiving recipient identification information from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal;

furnishing a unique authentication code associated with the recipient identification information to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal;

receiving a designation from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal of an amount of cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient at any one of a plurality of financial institution transaction terminals and a source account for the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal;

receiving a selection from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal for one of an option for notification of the originator and an option for non-notification of the originator when the authorized cash is withdrawn by the recipient;

notifying the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal of an availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal by the recipient at any one of the plurality of financial institution transaction terminals;

allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient at one of the plurality of financial institution transaction terminal; and

if the originator'"'"'s selection of the option for notification of the originator is received, notifying the originator of the withdrawal of the cash.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein allowing the originator to access the server further comprises allowing the originator to access an interactive voice response server via a telephonic device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises receiving an originator'"'"'s transaction card number and personal identification number from the originator by the interactive voice response server.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises allowing the originator to enter the originator'"'"'s transaction card number and personal identification number via a telephone keypad.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises notifying the originator of a balance of a financial institution account of the originator by the interactive voice response server via the access portal.

6. The method of claim 3, wherein allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises allowing the originator to enter a selection of a transfer option from a voice menu of the interactive voice response server.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein allowing the originator to access the server further comprises allowing the originator to access the server via an input device at a self-service financial transaction terminal of the financial institution.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein allowing the originator to access the server further comprises allowing the originator to access the server via an Internet website application.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the recipient identification information further comprises receiving one of a transaction card number for the recipient and a cardless identifier for the recipient from the originator.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein receiving the transaction card number for the recipient further comprises receiving a selection from the originator of a transaction card initiated transaction terminal transaction for the recipient.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein receiving the transaction card number for the recipient further comprises receiving one of a credit card number and an ATM card number for the recipient.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein receiving the cardless identifier for the recipient further comprises receiving a selection from the originator of a cardless transaction terminal transaction for the recipient.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein receiving the cardless identifier for the recipient further comprises receiving one of an alphabetic, a numeric, and an alphanumeric identifier known to the recipient.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the recipient identification information further comprises confirming the recipient identification information to the originator by the transaction terminal server via the access portal.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the recipient identification information further comprises receiving a specification of a predefined parameter from the originator for withdrawal of the cash by the recipient.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein receiving the specification of the predefined parameter for withdrawal of the cash further comprises receiving a specification from the originator of a predetermined time period within which the withdrawal of the cash by the recipient is allowed.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein receiving the specification of the predefined parameter for withdrawal of the cash further comprises receiving a specification from the originator of an enabling event upon which withdrawal of the cash by the recipient is conditioned.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal and the source account further comprises receiving the designation of one of a checking account, a savings account, and a credit card account of the originator as the source account.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal and the source account further comprises deducting the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal from the source account.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein deducting the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal further comprises holding the deducted amount of cash in a temporary account pending withdrawal of the cash by the recipient.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient further comprises confirming the designation to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein confirming the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal further comprises offering the originator an option to cancel by the financial institution terminal via the access portal.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein, if the selection for the option for notification of the originator is received, receiving the selection for the option for notification of the originator further comprises receiving contact information for the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein receiving the contact information for the originator further comprises receiving one of a telephone number, a fax number, and an email address for the originator.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein receiving the contact information for the originator further comprises confirming the contact information to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal.

The method of claim 1, wherein, if a transaction card number for the recipient is received by the financial institution server from the originator via the access portal, notifying the originator of the availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal further comprises notifying the originator of a requirement for the recipient to dip a transaction card associated with the transaction card number and to enter the unique authentication code at the transaction terminal for withdrawal of the cash.

The method of claim 1, wherein, if a cardless identifier for the recipient is received by the financial institution server from the originator via the access portal, notifying the originator of the availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal further comprises notifying the originator of a requirement for the recipient to enter the cardless identifier and the unique authentication code at the transaction terminal for withdrawal of the cash.

The method of claim 1, wherein, if the originator'"'"'s selection of the option for notification of the originator is received, notifying the originator of the availability of the designated cash for the withdrawal by the recipient further comprises notifying the originator that a confirmation call will be made to the originator when the cash is withdrawn.

29. The method of claim 1, wherein allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient further comprises receiving the unique authentication code and recipient identification information from the recipient at the transaction terminal.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein receiving the recipient identification information from the recipient further comprises receiving one of a transaction card number for the recipient and a cardless identifier for the recipient.

31. The method of claim 29, wherein receiving the authentication code and recipient identification information from the recipient further comprises verifying the authentication code and recipient identification information by a financial institution back office server.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein verifying the authentication code and recipient identification information further comprises confirming a transaction pending for the authorized cash withdrawal by the financial institution back office server based on the verified authentication code and recipient identification information.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein confirming the transaction pending by the financial institution back office server further comprises authorizing the recipient'"'"'s withdrawal of the cash to the transaction terminal by the back office server.

34. The method of claim 1, wherein allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient further comprises allowing the withdrawal of a portion of the cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient.

35. The method of claim 1, wherein notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises notifying the originator according to contact information furnished by the originator.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises notifying the originator by one of telephonic notification, fax notification, and email notification according to the contact information furnished by the originator.

37. The method of claim 1, wherein notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises notifying the originator of a date and a location of the transaction terminal of the withdrawal.

39. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the server further comprises means for allowing the originator to access an interactive voice response server via a telephonic device.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises means for receiving an originator'"'"'s transaction card number and personal identification number from the originator by the interactive voice response server.

41. The system of claim 40, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises means for allowing the originator to enter the originator'"'"'s transaction card number and personal identification number via a telephone keypad.

42. The system of claim 40, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises means for notifying the originator of a balance of a financial institution account of the originator by the interactive voice response server via the access portal.

43. The system of claim 40, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the interactive voice response server further comprises means for allowing the originator to enter a selection of a transfer option from a voice menu of the interactive voice response server.

44. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the server further comprises means for allowing the originator to access the server via an input device at a self-service financial transaction terminal of the financial institution.

45. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for allowing the originator to access the server further comprises means for allowing the originator to access the server via an Internet website application.

46. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the recipient identification information further comprises means for receiving one of a transaction card number for the recipient and a cardless identifier for the recipient from the originator.

47. The system of claim 46, wherein the means for receiving the transaction card number for the recipient further comprises means for receiving a selection from the originator of a transaction card initiated transaction terminal transaction for the recipient.

48. The system of claim 46, wherein the means for receiving the transaction card number for the recipient further comprises means for receiving one of a credit card number and an ATM card number for the recipient.

49. The system of claim 46, wherein the means for receiving the cardless identifier for the recipient further comprises means for receiving a selection from the originator of a cardless transaction terminal transaction for the recipient.

50. The system of claim 49, wherein the means for receiving the cardless identifier for the recipient further comprises means for receiving one of an alphabetic, a numeric, and an alphanumeric identifier known to the recipient.

51. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the recipient identification information further comprises means for confirming the recipient identification information to the originator by the transaction terminal server via the access portal.

52. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the recipient identification information further comprises means for receiving a specification of a predefined parameter from the originator for withdrawal of the cash by the recipient.

53. The system of claim 52, wherein the means for receiving the specification of the predefined parameter for withdrawal of the cash further comprises means for receiving a specification from the originator of a predetermined time period within which the withdrawal of the cash by the recipient is allowed.

54. The system of claim 52, wherein the means for receiving the specification of the predefined parameter for withdrawal of the cash further comprises means for receiving a specification from the originator of an enabling event upon which withdrawal of the cash by the recipient is conditioned.

55. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal and the source account further comprises means for receiving the designation of one of a checking account, a savings account, and a credit card account of the originator as the source account.

56. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal and the source account further comprises means for deducting the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal from the source account.

57. The system of claim 56, wherein the means for deducting the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal further comprises means for holding the deducted amount of cash in a temporary account pending withdrawal of the cash by the recipient.

58. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient further comprises means for confirming the designation to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal.

59. The system of claim 58, wherein the means for confirming the designation of the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal further comprises means for offering the originator an option to cancel by the financial institution terminal via the access portal.

60. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for receiving the selection for the option for notification of the originator further comprises means for receiving contact information for the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal if the selection for the option for notification of the originator is received.

61. The system of claim 60, wherein the means for receiving the contact information for the originator further comprises means for receiving one of a telephone number, a fax number, and an email address for the originator.

62. The system of claim 61, wherein the means for receiving the contact information for the originator further comprises means for confirming the contact information to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal.

The system of claim 38, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal further comprises means for notifying the originator of a requirement for the recipient to dip a transaction card associated with the transaction card number and to enter the unique authentication code at the transaction terminal for withdrawal of the cash if a transaction card number for the recipient is received by the financial institution server from the originator via the access portal.

64. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal further comprises means for notifying the originator of a requirement for the recipient to enter the cardless identifier and the unique authentication code at the transaction terminal for withdrawal of the cash if a cardless identifier for the recipient is received by the financial institution server from the originator via the access portal.

65. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the availability of the designated cash for the withdrawal by the recipient further comprises means for notifying the originator that a confirmation call will be made to the originator when the cash is withdrawn if the originator'"'"'s selection of the option for notification of the originator is received.

66. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient further comprises means for receiving the unique authentication code and recipient identification information from the recipient at the transaction terminal.

67. The system of claim 66, wherein the means for receiving the recipient identification information from the recipient further comprises means for receiving one of a transaction card number for the recipient and a cardless identifier for the recipient.

68. The system of claim 66, wherein the means for receiving the authentication code and recipient identification information from the recipient further comprises means for verifying the authentication code and recipient identification information by a financial institution back office server.

69. The system of claim 68, wherein the means for verifying the authentication code and recipient identification information further comprises means for confirming a transaction pending for the authorized cash withdrawal by the financial institution back office server based on the verified authentication code and recipient identification information.

70. The system of claim 69, wherein the means for confirming the transaction pending by the financial institution back office server further comprises means for authorizing the recipient'"'"'s withdrawal of the cash to the transaction terminal by the back office server.

71. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient further comprises means for allowing the withdrawal of a portion of the cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient.

72. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises means for notifying the originator according to contact information furnished by the originator.

73. The system of claim 72, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises means for notifying the originator by one of telephonic notification, fax notification, and email notification according to the contact information furnished by the originator.

74. The system of claim 38, wherein the means for notifying the originator of the withdrawal further comprises means for notifying the originator of a date and a location of the transaction terminal of the withdrawal.

38. A system for performing a cash transaction with a self-service financial transaction terminal, comprising:

means for allowing an originator to access a financial institution server via an access portal;

means for receiving recipient identification information from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal;

means for furnishing a unique authentication code associated with the recipient identification information to the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal;

means for receiving a designation from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal of an amount of cash authorized for withdrawal by the recipient at any one of a plurality of financial institution transaction terminals and a source account for the amount of cash authorized for withdrawal;

means for receiving a selection from the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal for one of an option for notification of the originator and an option for non-notification of the originator when the authorized cash is withdrawn by the recipient;

means for notifying the originator by the financial institution server via the access portal of an availability of the authorized cash for withdrawal by the recipient at any one of the plurality of financial institution transaction terminals;

means for allowing withdrawal of the cash by the recipient at one of the plurality of financial institution transaction terminal; and

means for notifying the originator of the withdrawal of the cash if the originator'"'"'s selection of the option for notification of the originator is received.
