Abstract

A printed circuit board (10) including a layered transformer (1) has a stack of layers of a first magnetic layer (2), a first transformer coil (4), an insulating body (7), a second transformer coil (5) and a second magnetic layer (3), wherein each of the transformer coils (4,5) is embodied as a two-dimensional pattern of conductive tracks. The insulating body may comprise one of more channels (8,18,28) containing a magnetic material. Instead of one printed circuit board (10), the transformer (1) may be embodied in two printed circuit boards (60) as well, each comprising a magnetic layer (2) and a transformer coil (4). Said printed circuit boards may be included in a charger device (71) and a user device (72).

Claims

1. A system comprising a transformer (1) which has a first (4) and a second transformer winding (5) and a first magnetic layer (2), which first magnetic layer is laminated in a multilayer printed circuit board (10, 60), said printed circuit board (10, 60) being provided with a first (11) and a second, opposed outer surface (12, 62) with a pattern of conductor tracks (21) on the first outer surface (11),

characterized in that the transformer (1) comprises a primary part (69), a secondary part (79), and an insulation layer (7), which insulation layer (7) lies between the primary (69) and the secondary part (79),

the primary part (69) comprises the first transformer winding (4) and the first magnetic layer (2), which first transformer winding (4) is constructed as a two-dimensional pattern of conductor tracks, is laminated in the printed circuit board (10) between the first magnetic layer (2) and the insulation layer (7), and is electrically connected to the pattern of conductor tracks (21) at the first outer surface (11), and

the secondary part (79) comprises the second transformer winding (5) and a second magnetic layer (3), which second transformer winding (5) lies between the second magnetic layer (3) and the insulation layer (7).

2. A system as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the secondary part (79) forms part of the printed circuit board (10), such that the transformer (1) is of a completely layered structure.

3. A system as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the primary part (69) forms part of a charger device (71), and in that the secondary part (79) forms part of a user device (72).

4. A system as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the transformer (1) forms part of a circuit which is designed as a resonant topology.

5. A printed circuit board (10, 60) provided with a first (11) and a second, opposed outer surface (12, 62), with a pattern of conductor tracks (21) on said first outer surface (11), and comprising a first transformer winding (4) and a first magnetic layer (2),

characterized in that the first magnetic layer (2), the first transformer winding (4) constructed as a two-dimensional pattern of conductor tracks, and an insulating layer (7) are laminated between the first (11) and the second outer surface (12, 62), while the first transformer winding (4) is connected with electrical conduction to the pattern of conductor tracks (21) at the first outer surface (11), and

the printed circuit board (10, 60) is suitable for use in the system as claimed in claim 1 or 2.

6. A printed circuit board (10) as claimed in claim 5,

characterized in that a second transformer winding (5) constructed as a two-dimensional pattern of conductor tracks and a second magnetic layer (3) are present between the insulating layer (7) and the second outer surface (12), and in that the second transformer winding (5) and the second magnetic layer (3) are laminated together with the insulating layer (7), the first transformer winding (4), and the first magnetic layer (2).

7. A printed circuit board (10, 60) as claimed in claim 5 or 6, characterized in that at least the first magnetic layer (2) comprises a composite of a matrix of organic material and a filler of magnetic material.

A printed circuit board (10, 60) as claimed in claim 5 or 6, characterized in that a screening layer (24) of electrically conducting material and an intermediate layer (25) of electrically insulating material are present at the first outer surface (11) between the first magnetic layer (2) and the pattern of conductor tracks (21).

9. A printed circuit board (10) as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that the insulating layer (7) has a thickness of at least 0.4 mm and projects at least 2.5 mm beyond the magnetic layers (2, 3).

10. A printed circuit board (10) as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that the insulating layer (7) is provided with channels (8, 18, 28), which channels (8, 18, 28) are filled with a composite comprising a matrix of organic material and a filler of magnetic material.

A printed circuit board (10, 60) as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that a third transformer winding (6) in the form of a two-dimensional pattern of conductor tracks is present between the first transformer winding (4) and the insulating layer (7), which third transformer winding (6) is electrically connected to the first transformer winding (4).

12. A charger device (71) suitable for use in the system as claimed in claim 1 and provided with the printed circuit board (60) as claimed in claim 5.

13. A user device (72) suitable for use in the system as claimed in claim 1 and provided with the printed circuit board (60) as claimed in claim 5.

14. An apparatus suitable for use in the system as claimed in claim 2 and provided with the printed circuit board (10) as claimed in claim 6.
