1. A computer-implemented method for interfacing with a resident application of a computer system, a data file received in a background space of said computer system via a transmission medium using a polite push data transmission technique, comprising:

  • generating a user interface having plural command interfaces; and

issuing an instruction to said resident application by selecting one of said plural command interfaces, wherein selection of a first one of said plural command interfaces transfers said data file to a foreground space of said computer system and causes said resident application to open said received data file, and selection of a second one of said plural command interfaces deletes said received data file without opening said data file or transferring said data file to said foreground space.
