Abstract

A system is disclosed that provides a goal based learning system utilizing a rule based expert training system to provide a cognitive educational experience. The system provides the user with a simulated environment that presents a business opportunity to understand and solve optimally. Mistakes are noted and remedial educational material presented dynamically to build the necessary skills that a user requires for success in the business endeavor. The system utilizes an artificial intelligence engine driving individualized and dynamic feedback with synchronized video and graphics used to simulate real-world environment and interactions. Multiple “correct” answers are integrated into the learning system to allow individualized learning experiences in which navigation through the system is at a pace controlled by the learner. A robust business model provides support for realistic activities and allows a user to experience real world consequences for their actions and decisions and entails realtime decision-making and synthesis of the educational material. A dynamic feedback system is utilized that narrowly tailors feedback and focuses it based on the performance and characteristics of the student to assist the student in reaching a predefined goal.

Claims

1. A method for creating a presentation, comprising the steps of:

(a) receiving a goal;

(b) integrating information that motivates accomplishment of the goal;

(c) evaluating the progress toward the goal and provides feedback that further motivates accomplishment of the goal; and

(d) adjusting the feedback based on the students progress toward the goal.

2. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, including the step of evaluating the progress based on the number of help sessions the student accesses.

3. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 2, including the step of evaluating the progress based on the work completed by the student.

4. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, including the step of evaluating the progress based on the number of changes.

5. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, including the step of evaluating the progress based on the amount of rework.

6. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, including the step of evaluating the progress based on the aggregate condition of the work.

7. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, wherein the user applications comprise:

calendar, electronic mail, spreadsheet, contact list, word processing, task list, stocks and news.

8. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, wherein the tone of the feedback is adjusted based on characteristics of the student.

9. A method for creating a presentation as recited in claim 1, including the step of adjusting the example based on student progress.

10. An apparatus that creates a presentation, comprising;

(b) a processor;

(c) a memory that stores information under the control of the processor;

(d) logic that receives a goal;

(e) logic that integrates information that motivates accomplishment of the goal;

(f) logic that evaluates the progress toward the goal and provides feedback that further motivates accomplishment of the goal; and

(a) logic that adjusts the feedback based on the students progress toward the goal.

11. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that evaluates the progress based on the number of help sessions the student accesses.

12. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that evaluates the progress based on the work completed by the student.

13. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that evaluates the progress based on the changes made.

14. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that evaluates the progress based on the amount of rework.

15. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that evaluates the progress based on the aggregate condition of the work.

16. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, wherein the user applications comprise:

calendar, electronic mail, spreadsheet, contact list, word processing, task list, stocks and news.

17. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, wherein the tone of the feedback is adjusted based on characteristics of the student.

18. An apparatus that creates a presentation as recited in claim 10, including logic that creates a multimedia presentation as recited in claim 11, including logic that adjusts the example based on student progress.
