Abstract
A paging system is arranged to deliver a page from a caller to a subscriber with an optional vocal message being transcribed into a digital message. The identity of the caller and the digital message, if any, are shown on the screen of a pager associated with the subscriber. The subscriber can contact the caller by calling a special number which is not necessarily the same number as the caller'"'"'s telephone number. The subscriber is then automatically connected to the caller. The cost of the page and the return call can be charged to either the subscriber or the caller.
