Abstract

An information apparatus with access to content is managed by establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and an output device and receiving over the communication channel an output device profile associated with the output device. The information apparatus obtains one or more image attributes associated with the output device and conforms at least part of the content into one or more output images with the image attributes. The information apparatus generates an output data that includes the output images and is associated with the output device, and delivers the output data to the output device for rendering.

Claims

1. In a computer readable medium, an information apparatus data output software for managing output of content to a selected output device, comprising:

software for accessing at least part of said content;

software for establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and one or more output devices;

software for receiving over the communication channel at least one attribute corresponding to the one or more output devices;

software for selecting one of said one or more output devices for rendering content based at least in part on the received attributes;

software for conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with the at least one attribute related at least in part to the selected output device;

software for generating at the information apparatus an output data that includes said one or more output images; and

software for delivering the output data for rendering by the selected output device.

2. The medium according to claim 1 in which the software for establishing a communication channel includes software for establishing a wireless communication channel.

3. The medium of claim 1 further comprising software for discovering the selected output device as one of one or more output devices that are discovered by the information apparatus as being available for rendering the output content.

4. The medium of claim 1 further comprising software for providing payment information over the communication channel as compensation for the rendering of the content by the selected output device.

5. A method of operating an information apparatus with access to content, for managing output of said content to an output device, comprising:

establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and the output device;

receiving over the communication channel an output device profile associated with the output device;

obtaining one or more image attributes associated with the output device employing the output device profile;

conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with said one or more image attributes;

generating an output data associated with the output device, the output data

including said one or more output images; and

delivering the output data to the output device for rendering.

6. A method according to claim 5, wherein the output device is one of a plurality of output devices and the method includes the step of selecting the output device from said plurality of output devices.

7. A method according to claim 5, comprising obtaining image attributes that include one or more of resolution, color space, output size, resolution, bit depth, number of color channels, compression method, an image format indicator, and rendering intent.

8. The method of claim 5 comprising encoding said one or more output images with mixed raster content encoding.

9. The method of claim 5 further comprising providing payment information over the communication channel as compensation for the rendering of the content by the output device.

10. A method of operating an information apparatus with access to content, for managing output of said content to an output device, comprising:

establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and an output device;

receiving over the communication channel at least an indication from the output device related to rendering the content at the output device;

obtaining one or more rasterization parameters related to the output device;

conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with said one or more rasterization parameters; and

delivering an output data to the output device for rendering, the output data including said one or more output images.

11. A method according to claim 10 comprising establishing a short-range wireless communication channel.

12. A method according to claim 10, wherein the output device is one of a plurality of output devices and the method includes the step of selecting the output device from among said plurality of output devices.

13. A method according to claim 10, wherein the output device is one of a plurality of output devices and the step of receiving at least an indication includes receiving at least an indication from one or more output devices related to rendering the content at the output devices respectively.

14. A method according to claim 10, comprising obtaining, as said one or more rasterization parameters, one or more of resolution, color space, output size, resolution, bit depth, and number of color channels.

The method of claim 10 in which the conforming of at least part of the content includes one or more of a color correction operation, a color matching operation, a color management operation, a scaling operation, an interpolation operation, a color space conversion, a compression, a decompression, a segmentation, a de-segmentation, a storing, a retrieving and a halftoning operation.

17. A method according to claim 16 comprising establishing a wireless communication channel.

18. A method according to claim 16, comprising conforming at least part of the content with rasterization parameters that include one or more of resolution, color space, output size, resolution, bit depth, and number of color channels.

19. The method of claim 16 further comprising providing payment information over the communication channel as compensation for the rendering of the content by the selected output device.

16. A method of operating an information apparatus with access to content, for managing output of said content to an output device, comprising:

establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and one or more output devices;

receiving over the communication channel at least one attribute corresponding to said one or more output devices;

selecting one of said one or more output devices for rendering content based at least in part on the received attributes;

conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with at least one rasterization parameter related at least in part to the selected output device;

generating an output data that includes said one or more output image; and

delivering the output data for rendering by the selected output device.

20. A method of operating an information apparatus with access to content, the content includes at least part of a text or graphics information, for managing output of content to one or more output devices, comprising:

establishing a communication channel between the information apparatus and one or more output devices with short range wireless communication;

conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with at least one image attribute associated with at least one predefined standard rasterization parameter values related to an intermediate output data format;

generating a device independent intermediate output data that includes said one or more output images; and

delivering via the communication channel the intermediate output data to at least one of said one or more output devices for rendering.

21. In a computer readable medium, an information apparatus data output software for managing output of content to an output device, comprising:

software for accessing at least part of the content;

software for managing a communication channel between the information apparatus and the output device;

software for receiving over the communication channel one or more components associated with the output device;

software for conforming at least part of the content into one or more output images with one or more rasterization parameters related at least in part to said one or more components;

software for generating an output data including at least said one or more output images; and

software for directing the output data over the communication channel to the output device for rendering.
