Abstract

A system is described for displaying images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages. The system comprises a display system capable of executing a display program wherein images of the virtual three-dimensional book are produced on the display system. A slide-out operation for sliding a virtual page out from the virtual three-dimensional book may be provided. The display system may also include a “rocker book” feature, wherein a book shifts between a first view and a second view. Moreover, the display system may display the virtual pages in a plurality of size formats, wherein a selection function may be provided for selecting among the plurality of size formats. Finally, a computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a virtual three-dimensional book is also disclosed.

Claims

1. A system for displaying images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages, the system comprising:

a display system capable of executing a display program,

wherein images of the virtual three-dimensional book are produced on the display system, and

wherein a virtual page may be slid out from the virtual three-dimensional book by performing a slide-out operation.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the slide-out operation comprises selecting a virtual page from the virtual three-dimensional book and dragging the virtual page out of the book.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the slide-out operation comprises animating the slid-out virtual page moving from the virtual three-dimensional book.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the slide-out operation comprises displaying the slid-out virtual page adjacent the virtual three-dimensional book.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the slide-out operation comprises displaying the slid-out virtual page as at least partially overlapping the virtual three-dimensional book.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the slide-out operation includes modifying the virtual three-dimensional book such that the slid-out virtual page is visually separated from the virtual three-dimensional book.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the slide-out operation includes modifying the virtual three-dimensional book such that a copy of the slid-out virtual page is differently displayed within the virtual three-dimensional book.

8. A system for displaying images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages, the system comprising:

a display system capable of executing a display program,

wherein images of the virtual three-dimensional book are produced on the display system, and

wherein the virtual three-dimensional book is displayed in a first view having a first virtual page substantially parallel to a surface of the display system and a second virtual page substantially perpendicular to the surface of the display system and in a second view having the first virtual page displayed substantially perpendicular to the surface of the display system and the second virtual page displayed substantially parallel to the surface of the display system

wherein a page selection operation shifts between the first view and the second view.

9. The system according to claim 8, wherein the page selection operation comprises an animation of the virtual three dimensional book being turned between the first view and the second view.

10. The system according to claim 9, wherein a speed of the animation is controlled by a user.

11. The system according to claim 9, wherein a speed of the animation is predetermined animation speed.

13. The system according to claim 12, wherein the display system includes a size selection function for selecting between the plurality of size formats.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein the size selection function is activated by selecting a virtual page and gesturing upward for an increase in size and downward for a decrease in size.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the virtual page slide-out function comprises selecting a virtual page from the virtual three-dimensional book and dragging the virtual page out of the book.

17. The computer program product of claim 16 wherein the virtual page slide-out function comprises animating the slid-out virtual page moving from the virtual three-dimensional book

18. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein the virtual page slide-out function comprises displaying the slid-out virtual page adjacent the virtual three-dimensional book.

19. The computer program product of claim 17 wherein the virtual page slide-out function comprises displaying the slid-out virtual page as at least partially overlapping the virtual three-dimensional book.

20. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the virtual page slide-out function includes modifying the virtual three-dimensional book such that the slid-out virtual page is visually separated from the virtual three-dimensional book.

21. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the virtual page slide-out function includes modifying the virtual three-dimensional book such that the slid-out virtual page is differently displayed as part of the virtual three-dimensional book.

32. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the worksheet slide-out function comprises selecting a worksheet from the spreadsheet workbook and dragging the worksheet out of the book.

36. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein the slide-out function comprises selecting a presentation slide from the presentation and dragging the presentation slide out of the book.

12. A system for displaying images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages, the system comprising:

a display system capable of executing a display program,

wherein images of the virtual three-dimensional book are produced on the display system, and

wherein the virtual pages are displayed in one of a plurality of predetermined size formats.

15. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages on a display device, the computer readable code comprising;

a virtual page slide-out function for sliding out a virtual page from the virtual three-dimensional book.

22. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages on a display device, the computer readable code comprising;

a rocker book function for displaying the three-dimensional book in a first view having a first virtual page substantially parallel to a surface of the display device and a second virtual page substantially perpendicular to the surface of the display device and in a second view having the first virtual page displayed substantially perpendicular to the surface of the device and the second virtual page displayed substantially parallel to the surface of the display device; and

a page selection function for shifting between the first view and the second view.

23. The computer program product of claim 22 wherein the computer readable code further comprises:

an animation function for animating the virtual three dimensional book turning between the first view and the second view.

24. The computer program product of claim 23 wherein a speed of the animation function is controlled by a user.

25. The computer program product of claim 23 wherein a speed of the animation function is a predetermined animation speed.

27. The computer program product of claim 26 wherein the computer readable code further comprises:

a size selection function for selecting between the plurality of size formats.

28. The computer program product of claim 27 wherein the size selection function is activated by selecting a virtual page and gesturing upward for an increase in size and downward for a decrease in size.

30. The system of claim 29, wherein the slide-out operation comprises selecting a worksheet from the spreadsheet workbook and dragging the worksheet out of the workbook.

34. The system of claim 29, wherein the slide-out operation comprises selecting a presentation slide from the presentation and dragging the slide out of the presentation.

26. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages on a display device, the computer readable code comprising;

a sizing function for displaying the virtual pages in one of a plurality of predetermined size formats.

29. A system for displaying images of a spreadsheet workbook having one or more worksheets, the system comprising:

a display system capable of executing a display program,

wherein images of the spreadsheet workbook are produced on the display system, and

wherein a worksheet may be slid out from the spreadsheet workbook by performing a slide-out operation.

31. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a spreadsheet workbook having one or more worksheets on a display device, the computer readable code comprising;

a worksheet slide-out function for sliding out a worksheet from the spreadsheet workbook.

33. A system for displaying images of a presentation having one or more presentation slides, the system comprising:

a display system capable of executing a display program,

wherein images of the presentation are produced on the display system, and

wherein a presentation slide may be slid out from the presentation by performing a slide-out operation.

35. A computer program product comprising:

a computer usable medium having computer readable code embodied therein for producing images of a presentation having one or more presentations slides on a display device, the computer readable code comprising;

a slide-out function for sliding out a presentation slide from the presentation.

37. A method of manipulating a virtual three-dimensional book having one or more virtual pages and displayed on a display system, the method comprising the steps of:

providing a slide-out operation via a user interface for sliding out a virtual page from the virtual three-dimensional book; and

displaying the slid-out virtual page and the virtual three-dimensional book on the display system.
