Abstract

A system for rendering available a stream of identical random processes to at least two seperate and remote parties is disclosed. The system includes a multiple random process source which makes available a preferably large number of independent random processes. The system further includes a device available to the parties and which serves for selecting for use by each of the parties, at the same time, an identical one of said plurality of random processes.

Claims

1. A system for rendering available identical random processes producing random outputs from a field of random processes to at least two seperate parties, thereby to provide said random outputs simultaneously to said parties, the system comprising a first device available to each of said parties for selecting for use by each of said parties, at a same time, a same one of said plurality of random processes from said field.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein said first device is operable to consecutively change a selection of one of said plurality of random processes in a random manner at each of said parties.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein said first device is operable to select pseudorandomly from said plurality of random processes.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein said first device is operable to select randomly from said plurality of random processes.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein said parties are remotely located and connected via an open network.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein said first device is a software device.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein said parties are connected via a network and wherein said system is located on a host connected to said network.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein said first device is placeable by said system with each party and which comprises a function operable to use an output of said selected random process to provide a new selection of a random process.

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising a second device for placing with each party, said second device being operable to continuously communicate control messages between said parties, said control messages providing an indication of mutual synchronization of a current selection process of said parties.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising a third device placeable with each party for keeping in memory at least some of the output of at least one previously selected random process.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein said control messages contain data sufficient to enable each party to decide whether it is in synchronization with a party originating said control messages.

12. The system of claim 11, said data further comprising error detection code bits generatable from the output random data of the selected random process.

13. The system of claim 11, said data comprising a subset of bits selectable from said selected random process output, said selection being sparse.

14. The system of claim 10, wherein said third device is operable to select output from at least one of a plurality of random processes for backup data to be kept in memory.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein said third device is operable to consecutively change said selected random process from which the output is kept in memory, in a random manner.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein said third device is operable to select pseudorandomly from said plurality of random processes.

17. The system of claim 10, wherein said third device is operable to select randomly from said plurality of random processes.

18. The system of claim 10, wherein said third device is operable, following detection of loss of synchronization between the parties, to provide selected data to input to a function to select one of said plurality of random processes.

19. The system of claim 10, wherein memorized data from a previously selected random process serves to select a backup random process to be used in a next step by said parties, following synchronization loss.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein said memorized data is selectable from a previously selected random process that has successfully maintained synchronization between the parties.

21. A system for providing identical synchronized randomness to at least two seperate locations using an output of one of a plurality of random processes, the system comprising a first device for selecting said one random process from amongst said plurality of random processes, which selection is changeable in a consecutive manner.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein said first device is operable to consecutively change said selected random process in a random manner.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein said first device is operable to select pseudorandomly from said random processes.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein said first device is operable to select randomly from said random processes.

25. The system of claim 21, wherein said first device is operable to use output from a currently selected random process to select a next random process.

26. The system of claim 21, wherein said first device is a software device.

27. The system of claim 21, wherein said separate locations are connected via a network, the system being located on a host connected to said network and said first device being available to each of said separate locations.

28. The system of claim 25, wherein said separate locations are remote locations.

29. The system of claim 21, further comprising a second device available to said separate locations, said device being for continuously communicating control messages between said remote locations, said messages providing an indication of mutual synchronization in respect of said selection between said remote locations.

30. The system of claim 29, wherein said system further comprises a third device available to each of said separate locations, said third device being operable to store outputs from at least one previously selected random process.

31. The system of claim 29, wherein said messages contain data relating to said selected random process, said data being sufficient to enable a recipient location of said message to determine if it is synchronized with an origin location of said message.

32. The system of claim 31, wherein said data is error detection code data of an output of said currently selected random process.

33. The system of claim 30, wherein said third device is operable to select one of a plurality of random processes for backup data to be kept in memory.

34. The system of claim 30, wherein said third device is operable to consecutively change said selected random process in a random manner.

35. The system of claim 30, wherein said third device is operable to select pseudorandomly from said plurality of random processes.

36. The system of claim 30, wherein said third device is operable to select randomly from said plurality of random processes.

37. The system of claim 30, wherein said third device is operable to utilize said stored data in the event of detection of synchronization loss, to generate a new selection.

38. The system of claim 30, wherein said memorized data is usable to provide a backup random process selection in case of de-synchronization between the separate locations.

39. The system of claim 31, wherein said data is a subset of an output of said current selection.

40. The system of claim 31, wherein said subset is sparse.

41. A system for maintaining synchronization between at least two parties which parties are using one of a plurality of separately random processes as a current selection, the system comprising a synchronization device for continuously communicating control messages between said parties, said messages providing an indication of mutual synchronization between said parties in respect of said current selection.

42. The system of claim 41, wherein said messages contain data sufficient to indicate to a receiving party whether or not it is synchronized to a sending party.

43. A system for maintaining synchronization between at least two parties, which parties use one of a plurality of separately random processes as a current selection and which simultaneously change said selection in a consecutive manner, the system comprising a backup device for selecting one of said selections and keeping output data of said selection in memory, said output data being usable to make a backup selection in the event of synchronization loss between the parties.

44. The system of claim 43, wherein said backup device is operable to consecutively change said backup selection in a random manner.

45. The system of claim 43, wherein said backup device is operable to select pseudorandomly from said selections.

46. The system of claim 43, wherein said backup device is operable to select randomly from said selections.

47. The system of claim 43, wherein said data is usable to provide input to a selection function at each of said parties to produce said backup selection.

48. The system of claim 47, wherein said pseudorandom generator is identically set at each of said parties.

49. The system of claim 43, wherein said consecutive selections are grouped into stages, wherein said backup device is operable to exchange said backup selection after a group of stages and wherein said backup device is operable to control said parties to remain within a maximum distance of one stage from each other.

50. The system of claim 49, wherein said stages comprise stages close to a backup process changeover point and stages remote from a backup process changeover point, and wherein said backup device is operable to select between a current and a next backup selection based upon whether a current stage is a close stage or a remote stage.

51. The system of claim 49, a first user being defined as a master and a second user being defined as a slave, each user having a backup device, and each user being independently operable to determine whether loss of synchronization has occurred, said master being operable to set itself and said slave to a backup state, and said slave being operable to set itself and said master into a backup state, wherein said stages comprise stages close to a backup process changeover point and stages remote from a backup process changeover point, and wherein said backup device of said master is operable to select between a current and a next backup selection based upon whether a current stage is a close stage or a remote stage and to communicate said selection to said slave.

52. A method for enabling simultaneous use of identical random process by two separate parties and maintaining synchronization between said parties, the method comprising the steps of:

(a) maintaining a plurality of seperately random processes;

(b) selecting one of said plurality of random ; and

(c) consecutively changing said selected random process in a random manner.

53. The method of claim 52, further comprising the steps of:

(d) continuously communicating controlled messages between said parties, said messages providing an indication of the mutual synchronization between said parties; and

(e) communicating synchronization data between said parties, thus enabling said parties to determine whether they remain in synchronization.

54. The method of claim 52, further comprising the step of:

(d) selecting at least one of said selections;

(e) keeping output data of said at least one selection in memory; and

(f) using said output data of said at least one selection as backup data to select a new random process in the event of synchronization loss.

55. The method of claim 54, further comprising the steps of:

(g) grouping said consecutive selections into stages and groups of stages;

(h) exchanging said output data of said at least one selection after a group of stages; and

(i) controlling said parties to remain within a maximum distance of one stage from each other.

56. The method of claim 54, further comprising the steps of:

(a) grouping said stages into

stages close to a backup process changeover point and

stages remote from a backup process changeover point; and

(b) using either one of a current and a next backup selection, depending upon whether a current stage is one of said close stages or one of said remote stages.
