Abstract

The invention relates to a method for treating a surface of a polyimide. According to the invention a solution containing a pentane functionalized with more than one amino moiety is applied to a polyimide surface and the polyimide surface to which the solution has been applied is dried at a temperature of between about 20° C. and about 120° C.

Claims

1. A method for treating a surface of a polyimide comprising:

applying a solution containing a pentane functionalized with more than one amino moiety to a polyimide surface; and

drying the polyimide surface to which the solution has been applied at a temperature of between about 20°

C. and about 120°

C.

2. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the solution is applied by spraying.

3. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 2,

wherein the spraying is performed at ambient temperature.

4. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the drying is performed at ambient temperature.

5. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the pentane functionalized with more than one amino moiety is a diaminopentane of the general form x,y-diaminopentane, wherein x and y are each integers ranging independently from 1 to 5.

7. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the solution is in water.

8. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the solution is in an alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbons.

9. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the solution is in a mixture of water and said alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbons.

10. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 8,

wherein the alcohol is a propanol.

11. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 9,

wherein the alcohol is a propanol.

12. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 10,

wherein the propanol is isopropanol

13. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 11,

wherein the propanol is isopropanol

14. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 13,

wherein the mixture of water and isopropanol is a 1:

1 v/v mixture.

15. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 1,

wherein the solution concentration of the pentane functionalized with more than one amino moiety ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 w/v %.

17. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the spraying is performed at ambient temperature.

18. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the drying is performed at ambient temperature.

19. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the aliphatic amine functionalized with more than one amine moiety is an aliphatic diamine, aliphatic triamine or an aliphatic pentamine.

20. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the diamine is 1,5-pentanediamine.

21. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the triamine is diethylenetriamine.

22. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the pentamine is tetraethylenepentamine.

23. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the solution is in water.

24. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the solution is in an alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbons.

25. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the solution is in a mixture of water and said alcohol containing 1 to 4 carbons.

26. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 24,

wherein the alcohol is a propanol.

27. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 25,

wherein the alcohol is a propanol.

28. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 26,

wherein the propanol is isopropanol

29. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 27,

wherein the propanol is isopropanol

30. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 29,

wherein the mixture of water and isopropanol is a 1:

1 v/v mixture.

31. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 16,

wherein the solution concentration of the pentane functionalized with more than one amino moiety ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 w/v %.

32. A polyimide, at least a portion of the surface of which has been treated according to a method of any of the claims 1-31.

6. The method of treating a surface of a polyimide according to claim 6,

wherein x=1 and y=5.

16. A method of treating a surface of a polyimide:

comprising

spraying a solution containing an aliphatic amine functionalized with more than one amine moiety onto a polyimide surface; and

drying the polyimide surface to which the solution containing the aliphatic amine has been sprayed.
