Abstract

A CF on TFT type liquid crystal display and a method of manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display has a plurality of parallel scanning lines, a plurality of parallel data lines which cross the scanning lines, thin film transistors each disposed in the proximity of an intersection between one of the scanning lines and one of the data lines, and pixel electrodes disposed in a matrix and each coupled with one of the thin film transistors. The light shield film is formed over areas including at least the thin film transistors but except over portions which become banks and hinder flow of developer for patterning the light shield film. As an embodiment, the light shield film can be formed along the data lines, and also partially along the scanning lines except a part of each portion of the scanning lines between adjacent data lines.

Claims

1. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display having a plurality of parallel scanning lines, a plurality of parallel data lines which cross said scanning lines, thin film transistors each disposed in the proximity of an intersection between one of said scanning lines and one of said data lines, and pixel electrodes disposed in a matrix and each coupled with one of said thin film transistors, said method comprising:

forming a light shield film over portions including at least said thin film transistors but except over portions which become banks and hinder flow of developer for patterning said light shield film.

2. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 1, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is also formed over and along said data lines.

A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 2, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is also formed partially over and along said scanning lines, except over and along a part of each portion of said scanning lines between adjacent data lines.

4. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 1, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is also formed over and along said scanning lines.

A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 4, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is also formed partially over and along said data lines, except over and along a part of each portion of said data lines between adjacent scanning lines.

A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal display comprises a contact hole in each of areas surrounded by said scanning lines and said data lines, and wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is not formed over portions which become banks and hinder flow of said developer flowing through portions where said contact holes are to be formed.

7. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 1, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said developer flows along a longitudinal direction of each of said pixel electrodes.

8. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 7, wherein each of said pixel electrodes is formed into an elongated rectangular shape.

11. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 1, wherein said light shield film is also formed partially over and along said scanning lines, except over and along a part of each portion of said scanning lines between adjacent data lines.

13. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 12, wherein, in said forming said light shield film, said light shield film is also formed partially over and along said data lines, except over and along a part of each portion of said data lines between adjacent scanning lines.

9. A liquid crystal display comprising:

a plurality of scanning lines disposed parallel to each other;

a plurality of data lines which are disposed parallel to each other and which cross said scanning lines;

thin film transistors each disposed in the proximity of an intersection between one of said scanning lines and one of said data lines;

pixel electrodes disposed in a matrix and each coupled with one of said thin film transistors; and

a light shield film which is formed at least over said thin film transistors, but which is not formed over a part of each portion of said scanning lines between adjacent data lines or over a part of each portion of said data lines between adjacent scanning lines.

10. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 9, wherein said light shield film is also formed over and along said data lines.

12. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 9, wherein said light shield film is also formed over and along said scanning lines.

14. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 9, wherein said liquid crystal display comprises a contact hole in each of areas surrounded by said scanning lines and said data lines.

15. A liquid crystal display as set forth in claim 9, wherein each of said pixel electrodes has an elongated rectangular shape which is elongated along said data lines and wherein said light shield film is not formed over and along a part of each portion of said scanning lines between adjacent data lines.
