Abstract

a surgical imaging device is provided, including a housing configured to couple to an outer surface of a surgical device and an image capture arrangement configured to generate image data; the surgical imaging device may also include a circuit arrangement disposed within the housing and electrically coupled to the camera arrangement, in which the circuit arrangement is configured to communicate the image data to at least one remote device.

Claims

1. An surgical imaging device, comprising:

a housing configured to detachably couple to an outer surface of a surgical device; and

an image capture arrangement situated in the housing and configured to capture an image and provide image data.

2. The surgical imaging device according to claim 1, wherein the housing is configured to slidingly couple to the surgical device.

3. The surgical imaging device according to claim 1, wherein the housing is configured to couple to the surgical device via a strap.

4. The surgical imaging device according to claim 1, wherein the image data generated by the image capture arrangement includes one of still image data and video data.

5. The surgical imaging device according to claim 1, wherein the image capture arrangement includes a lens.

6. The surgical imaging device according to claim 5, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an image sensor positioned to capture an image via the lens.

7. The surgical imaging device according to claim 6, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an light source configured to illuminate an object to be imaged.

8. The surgical imaging device according to claim 1, further comprising:

a circuit arrangement disposed within the housing and configured to communicate the image data to at least one remote device.

9. The surgical imaging device according to claim 8, wherein the circuit arrangement is configured to communicate the image data to the at least one remote device via one of wired connection and a wireless connection.

10. A surgical attachment, comprising:

a surgical device having an outer surface; and

a surgical imaging device having a housing configured to detachably couple to the outer surface of the surgical device and having an image capture arrangement situated in the housing and configured to capture an image and provide image data.

11. The surgical attachment according to claim 10, wherein the housing is configured to slidingly couple to the surgical device.

12. The surgical attachment according to claim 10, wherein the housing is configured to couple to the surgical device via a strap.

13. The surgical attachment according to claim 10, wherein the image data generated by the image capture arrangement includes one of still image data and video data.

14. The surgical attachment according to claim 10, wherein the image capture arrangement includes a lens.

15. The surgical attachment according to claim 14, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an image sensor positioned to capture an image via the lens.

16. The surgical attachment according to claim 15, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an light source configured to illuminate an object to be imaged.

17. The surgical attachment according to claim 10, wherein the surgical imaging device further includes a circuit arrangement disposed within the housing and configured to communicate the image data to at least one remote device.

18. The surgical attachment according to claim 17, wherein the circuit arrangement is configured to communicate the image data to the at least one remote device via one of wired connection and a wireless connection.

20. The surgical system according to claim 19, wherein the housing is configured to slidingly couple to the surgical device.

21. The surgical system according to claim 19, wherein the housing is configured to couple to the surgical device via a strap.

22. The surgical system according to claim 19, wherein the image data generated by the image capture arrangement includes one of still image data and video data.

23. The surgical system according to claim 19, wherein the image capture arrangement includes a lens.

24. The surgical system according to claim 23, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an image sensor positioned to capture an image via the lens.

25. The surgical system according to claim 24, wherein the image capture arrangement further includes an light source configured to illuminate an object to be imaged.

26. The surgical system according to claim 19, further comprising:

a circuit arrangement disposed within the housing and configured to communicate the image data to at least one remote device.

27. The surgical system according to claim 26, wherein the circuit arrangement is configured to communicate the image data to the at least one remote device via one of wired connection and a wireless connection.

29. The method according to claim 28, wherein each of the steps of detachably coupling the surgical imaging device to the first and second surgical devices includes slidingly coupling the surgical imaging device to the respective one of the first and second surgical devices.

30. The method according to claim 28, wherein each of the steps of detachably coupling the surgical imaging device to the first and second surgical devices includes coupling the surgical imaging device to the respective one of the first and second surgical devices via a strap.

31. The method according to claim 28, further comprising the step of:

generating image data via the surgical imaging device.

32. The method according to claim 31, wherein the image data generated by the surgical imaging device includes one of still image data and video data.

33. The method according to claim 32, further comprising the step of illuminating an object to be imaged.

34. The method according to claim 31, further comprising the step of transmitting the image data to at least one remote device.

35. The method according to claim 34, wherein the step of transmitting includes transmitting by at least one of a wired-connection and a wireless connection.

19. A surgical system, comprising:

an electro-mechanical driver device; and

a surgical attachment including

a surgical device having an outer surface and

a surgical imaging device, the surgical imaging device having a housing configured to detachably couple to the outer surface of the surgical device and having an image capture arrangement situated in the housing and configured to capture an image and provide image data.

28. A method of using and reusing a surgical imaging device, the method comprising:

detachably coupling the surgical imaging device to a first surgical device;

removing the surgical imaging device from the first surgical device; and

detachably coupling the surgical imaging device to a second surgical device.
