Abstract

A work light for work or task areas which uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the source of light. LED clusters are mounted on a circuit board which is located in a housing. The LED work lights may be powered by conventional 120 or 240-volt electrical outlets, a DC generator, a battery, a battery pack, or a car adapter.

Claims

1. A work light comprising:

a base;

a battery operably mounted in said base;

a transparent cover operably associated with said base;

an LED mounting member operably disposed adjacent said cover; and

a plurality of LEDs mounted on said mounting member and electrically connected to said battery.

2. The work light according to claim 1 wherein said LEDs comprise focused LEDs.

3. The work light according to claim 1 wherein said mounting member comprises a heat sink.

4. The work light according to claim 1 wherein said mounting member comprises a heat sink including a plurality of fins.

5. The work light according to claim 1 wherein said battery is rechargeable, said work light further comprising an energizing circuit for energizing said LEDs from said battery, said energizing circuit including a current limiting device.

6. The work light according to claim 5 further comprising a recharging circuit, said recharging circuit including a unidirectional electrical element for bypassing said current limiting device.

7. The work light according to claim 1 wherein said battery includes a plurality of battery contacts, and wherein said base includes a plurality of electrical contacts respectively contacting said battery contacts and connecting said battery to said energizing circuit.

8. The work light according to claim 7 further comprising a contact enclosure, one of said electrical contacts disposed in said enclosure, whereby said battery contact is connected to said electrical contact within said enclosure.

9. The work light according to claim 7 further comprising a plurality of contact enclosures, each said electrical contact respectively disposed in one of said enclosures, whereby said battery contacts are respectively connected to said electrical contacts within said plurality of enclosures.

10. The work light according to claim 1 further comprising a hook for suspending said light.

11. The work light according to claim 1 further comprising a plurality of hooks for suspending said work light in a plurality of suspending orientations.

12. The work light according to claim 1 further comprising a head, said transparent cover comprising a portion of said head, said head rotatable relative to said base.

13. The work light according to claim 1 further comprising a head, said transparent cover comprising a portion of said head, said head tiltable relative to said base.

14. The work light according to claim 1 further comprising a head, said transparent cover comprising a portion of said head, said head both rotatable and tiltable relative to said base.

16. The work light according to claim 15 wherein said mounting member comprises a heat sink.

17. The work light according to claim 15 wherein said mounting member comprises a heat sink including a plurality of fins.

18. The work light according to claim 15 wherein said battery is rechargeable, said work light further comprising an energizing circuit for energizing said LEDs from said battery, said energizing circuit including a current limiting device.

19. The work light according to claim 18 further comprising a recharging circuit, said recharging circuit including a unidirectional electrical element for bypassing said current limiting device.

20. The work light according to claim 15 wherein said battery includes a plurality of battery contacts, and wherein said base includes a plurality of electrical contacts respectively contacting said battery contacts and connecting said battery to said energizing circuit.

21. The work light according to claim 20 further comprising a plurality of contact enclosures, each said electrical contact respectively disposed in one of said enclosures, whereby said battery contacts are respectively connected to said electrical contacts within said plurality of enclosures.

15. A work light comprising:

a base;

a battery operably mounted in said base;

a transparent cover operably associated with said base;

an LED mounting member operably disposed adjacent said cover; and

a plurality of focused LEDs mounted on said mounting member and electrically connected to said battery.

22. A work light comprising:

a base;

a battery operably mounted in said base;

a transparent cover operably associated with said base;

an LED mounting member operably disposed adjacent said cover;

a heat sink connected to said mounting member in heat exchanging relationship, said heat sink including a plurality of fins; and

a plurality of focused LEDs mounted on said mounting member and electrically connected to said battery.

23. The work light according to claim 22 wherein said battery is rechargeable, said work light further comprising an energizing circuit for energizing said LEDs from said battery, said energizing circuit including a current limiting device.

24. The work light according to claim 23 further comprising a recharging circuit, said recharging circuit including an electrical element for bypassing said current limiting device.

25. The work light according to claim 22 wherein said battery includes a plurality of battery contacts, and wherein said base includes a plurality of electrical contacts respectively contacting said battery contacts and connecting said battery to said energizing circuit.

26. The work light according to claim 25 further comprising a contact enclosure, one of said electrical contacts disposed in said enclosure, whereby said battery contact is connected to said electrical contact within said enclosure.

28. The work light according to claim 27 wherein said battery is rechargeable, said work light further comprising an energizing circuit for energizing said LEDs from said battery, said energizing circuit including a current limiting device.

29. The work light according to claim 28 further comprising a recharging circuit, said recharging circuit including an electrical element for bypassing said current limiting device.

30. The work light according to claim 27 further comprising a hook for suspending said light.

31. The work light according to claim 27 further comprising a plurality of hooks for suspending said work light in a plurality of suspending orientations.

32. The work light according to claim 27 further comprising a head, said transparent cover comprising a portion of said head, said head both rotatable and tiltable relative to said base.

27. A work light comprising:

a base, said base including a plurality of electrical contacts;

a battery operably mounted in said base, said battery includes a plurality of battery contacts, said battery contacts respectively contacting said electrical contacts;

a plurality of contact enclosures, each said electrical contact respectively disposed in one of said enclosures, whereby said battery contacts are respectively connected to said electrical contacts within said plurality of enclosures;

a transparent cover operably associated with said base;

an LED mounting member operably disposed adjacent said cover;

a heat sink connected to said mounting member in heat exchanging relationship, said heat sink including a plurality of fins; and

a plurality of focused LEDs mounted on said mounting member and electrically connected to said battery.
