Abstract

A method of transmitting/receiving a packet using a hybrid automatic repeat request in the mobile communication system is disclosed. The packet data transmitting method includes transmitting at least one sub packet divided from plurality of encoded packets generated by repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding information desired to be transmitted with ⅕ rate turbo encoder, and transmission start point information of the sub packet through the sub packet identifier field on the accompanying control channel.

Claims

1. A transmitting method a data packet in packet data communication system using hybrid automatic repeat request, comprising the steps of:

generating a plurality of data packets by repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding information desired to be transmitted with 1/n rate turbo encoder, where n is the inverse of coding rate;

dividing the plurality of data packets into at least one sub packet, the sub packet being transmitted according to transmission start points determined by a protocol mutually made by a transmitting end and a receiving end; and

informing a transmission start point information through a control channel using sub packet identifiers, and transmitting the corresponding sub packet to the receiving end through a data transmission channel in accordance with the transmission start point information.

The packet transmitting method of claim 1, wherein the transmission start point information of the respective sub packet is determined by taking a modulo n*N operation on the product between the number of code symbols of the corresponding sub packet and a corresponding sub packet identifier, where N represents the number of information bits of the packet and n represents the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder.

3. The packet transmitting method of claim 2, wherein the number of code symbols is determined according to the number of slots through which the sub packet is transmitted, modulation type, and the number of Walsh codes available for the sub packet transmission.

The packet transmitting method of claim 1, wherein the selection of the sub packet identifier to be presently transmitted is performed in a manner that the sub packet identifier making a coding gain maximum is selected among the remaining sub packet identifiers except for the sub packet identifier for representing an initial transmission position.

5. The packet transmitting method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

mapping the transmission start points at equal intervals in the data packet; and

transmitting a certain sub packet, starting from one of the mapped transmission start points in data packet.

6. The packet transmitting method of claim 5, wherein the transmitted sub packet overlaps the previous or next sub packet.

7. The packet transmitting method of claim 5, wherein when the length of the bit stream is N, the transmission start point mapped in the data packet is one among 0, (n*N)/4, (2*n*N)/4, and (3*n*N)/4, where n represents the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder.

8. The packet transmitting method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

mapping the transmission start points at unequal intervals in the data packet, mapping more transmission start points on a position of the data packet where the coded bit stream having high importance is located, and mapping less transmission start points on a position where the coded bit stream having low importance is located; and

transmitting a certain sub packet, starting from one of the mapped transmission start points.

9. The packet transmitting method of claim 8, wherein the transmitted sub packet overlaps the previous or next sub packet.

The packet transmitting method of claim 8, wherein a systematic bit, first parity bits, and second parity bits constitute a symbol in the data packet, the systematic bit and the first parity bits are considered important and positioned in a front portion of the sub packet, and more transmission start points are mapped in the front portion.

11. The packet transmitting method of claim 1, further comprising the step of additionally transmitting information through the control channel on whether the sub packet corresponding to the transmission start point information is the initially transmitted sub packet of the packet.

12. The packet transmitting method of claim 11, wherein the information is set to 0 or 1 according to the fact whether the transmitted sub packet is the initially transmitted packet of the packet.

13. The packet transmitting method of claim 11, wherein if the transmitted sub packet is the initially transmitted sub packet of the packet, the information transmitted as 0 is toggled to 1, and the information transmitted as 1 is toggled to 0.

14. The packet transmitting method of claim 1, wherein among combinations composed of predetermined numbers of bits, two combinations represent the initial transmission start point information of the sub packet, and the remaining combinations represent other transmission start point information.

The packet transmitting method of claim 14, wherein one of the two combinations that represent the initial transmission start point information represents the initially transmitted sub packet of the packet, and the other represents the successive sub packet of the previously transmitted sub packet.

16. The packet transmitting method of claim 14, wherein the predetermined number of bits is 3 bits.

18. The packet transmitting method of claim 17, wherein the number of code symbols is determined according to the number of slots through which the corresponding sub packet is transmitted, modulation type, and the number of Walsh codes available for sub packet transmission.

19. The packet transmitting method of claim 17, wherein the sub packet ID is selected when the coding gain is maximized at the receiving end.

20. The packet transmitting method of claim 19, wherein the sub packet ID that makes the coding gain maximum is determined by min {x, nE_p}, where x=|F_k−

1</sub>+L_k) mod (nE_p)|, F_k is the transmission start point information value of the corresponding sub packet, F<sub>k−

1</sub> is the transmission start point information value of the previously transmitted sub packet, L_k is the number of code symbols of the corresponding sub packet, and nE_p is the number of coded symbols in the data packet.

17. A method of transmitting a data packet in packet data communication system using hybrid automatic repeat request, comprising the steps of:

generating plurality of data packets by repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding information desired to be transmitted with 1/n rate turbo encoder, where n is the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder; and

transmitting the sub packet according to a transmission start point information of the corresponding sub packet determined by the number L_k of code symbols of the corresponding sub packet among the divided sub packets, a sub packet identification (ID) that makes a coding gain maximum in a receiving end among remaining sub packet IDs except for a sub packet ID for representing an initial transmission position, and the number of bits in the packet.

21. A method of receiving a data packet in packet data communication system using hybrid automatic repeat request, comprising the steps of:

selecting a transmission start point using a sub packet identification (ID) in case that at least one sub packet divided from plurality of data packets generated by repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding information desired to be received with 1/n rate turbo encoder is received, where n is the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder; and

regenerating the data packet with at least one sub packet previously received according to the selected transmission start point.

The packet receiving method of claim 21, wherein the transmission start point in an data packet is selected by taking modulo n*N operation on the product between the number of code symbols of the corresponding packet and the current sub packet ID, where N represents the number of information bits of the packet and n represents the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder.

24. The packet receiving method of claim 23, wherein the information is set to 0 or 1 according to the fact whether the received sub packet is a new sub packet of the packet.

25. The packet receiving method of claim 24, wherein if the received sub packet is the new sub packet of the packet, the information transmitted as 0 is toggled to 1, and the information transmitted as 1 is toggled to 0.

26. The packet receiving method of claim 23, wherein among combinations composed of predetermined numbers of bits, two combinations represent the initial transmission start point information of the sub packet, and the remaining combinations represent other transmission start point information.

27. The packet receiving method of claim 26, wherein one of the two combinations that represent the initial transmission start point information represents the initially received sub packet of the packet, and the other represents the successive sub packet of the previously received sub packet.

28. The packet receiving method of claim 26, wherein the predetermined number of bits is 3 bits.

30. The packet receiving method of claim 29, wherein the number of code symbols is determined according to the number of slots through which the corresponding sub packet is received, modulation type, and the number of Walsh codes available for the sub packet transmission.

23. A method of receiving a data packet in packet data communication system using hybrid automatic repeat request, comprising the steps of:

receiving information through a control channel on whether a received sub packet is an initially transmitted sub packet of a data packet in case that at least one sub packet divided from the plurality of data packets generated repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding includes information to be received with 1/n rate turbo encoder is received, where n is the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder; and

selecting a transmission start point using the information and an identification of the received sub packet, and regenerating the data packet with at least one sub packet previously transmitted according to the selected transmission start point.

29. A method of receiving a data packet in packet system using a hybrid automatic repeat request, comprising the step of

receiving at least one sub packet divided from the plurality of data packets generated by repeating a bit stream that is made by encoding information to be transmitted with 1/n rate turbo encoder is received where n is the inverse of coding rate of turbo encoder,

regenerating the data packet according to transmission start point of the sub packet selected by the number L_k of code symbols of the received sub packet, a sub packet identification (ID).
