Abstract

The present invention relates to a recording medium containing moving picture data and additional information thereof and to reproducing method and apparatus of the recording medium. The present recording medium has script files including additional information about moving picture data, e.g., scene descriptive text and introduction of characters, etc. In addition, information linking each script file with a section of moving picture data to be presented with contents of the script file is included in a link data file or is contained in a filename of the script file. In reproduction of the recording medium, a script file linked with presently reproduced moving picture data section is determined and searched for based on the link data file or every filename of the script files, and contents of the found script file are presented together with the presently reproduced moving picture data. Furthermore, previously presented additional information is removed depending on data or filename of the found script file.

Claims

1. A recording medium, comprising:

moving picture data; and

additional information, written in the form of file, related with said moving picture data, wherein filename of each additional information file includes an address of a related section of moving picture data.

2. The recording medium of claim 1, wherein said additional information file is named with an address of a start video object unit of a section of moving picture data to be presented together with contents of said additional information file.

The recording medium of claim 1, wherein information indicative of whether there is additional information associated with a program section of moving picture data or not is written in program chain information which specifies the program section and has reproduction-controlling information for the program section.

4. The recording medium of claim 3, wherein said information indicative of existence or non-existence of additional information is 1-bit long and is allocated in a program chain content field of said program chain information.

5. A method of reproducing a recording medium, comprising the steps of:

(a) determining whether there is at least one file including additional information for moving picture data on the recording medium;

(b) obtaining an address of presently reproduced moving picture data and searching for an additional information file associated with the obtained address, based on the determination result; and

(c) outputting contents of the found additional information file together with the presently reproduced moving picture data.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein said step (a) determines whether or not there is at least one file including additional information based on value of a 1-bit flag allocated in a program chain content field of program chain information written on the recording medium.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein said step (b) detects an address of a video object unit of the presently reproduced moving picture data

8. The method of claim 7, wherein said step (b) searches for an additional information file named with an address equal to or closest to and smaller than the detected address of video object unit.

9. A method of reproducing a recording medium, comprising the steps of:

(a) receiving a selection of a program section, which is to be reproduced, of moving picture data written on the recording medium;

(b) searching for additional information files of which each filename includes an address of video object unit belonging to the selected program section, said additional information files containing information related with the moving picture data; and

(c) storing the found additional information files into storing means other than the recording medium.

10. An apparatus of reproducing a recording medium, comprising:

a data pickup reading data recorded on the recording medium;

a data storage for storing at least one file, read by said data pickup, including additional information about moving picture data recorded on the recording medium; and

a controller searching for an additional information file linked with presently reproduced moving picture data based on each filename of the additional information files stored in said data storage, and having contents of the found additional information file presented.

The apparatus of claim 10, wherein, when a program section is selected among data written on the recording medium, said controller reads at least one additional information file of which filename includes an address belonging to the selected program section, and stores the read file or files into said data storage.
