Abstract

A method in a user equipment for enabling use thereof in electronic transactions is disclosed. In the method control information is received at the user equipment (1) from a management entity (12). The user equipment is provided with transaction means based on the received control information.

Claims

1. A method in a user equipment for enabling use thereof in electronic transactions, the method comprising:

receiving at the user equipment control information from a management entity; and

providing the user equipment with transaction means based on the received control information.

2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein existing transaction means of the user equipment are modified based on said information from the management entity.

3. A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the transaction means are modified to process electronic transactions in accordance with a transaction mechanism that is different from a previously used transaction mechanism.

4. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein existing transaction means of the user equipment are updated based on said information from the management entity.

5. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one parameter for use in electronic transactions by the user equipment is changed based on said information from the management entity.

6. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the transaction means are initiated at the user equipment based on said information from the management entity.

7. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the user equipment is provided with hardware for the transaction means during the manufacture thereof.

8. A method as claimed in claim 1, comprising step of providing the user equipment with hardware for the transaction means.

9. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the information from the management entity provides the user equipment with at least one new parameter for use in electronic transactions.

10. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the user equipment generates a message requesting for a modification of the transaction means.

11. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said information is included in a data entity.

12. A method as claimed in claim 11, wherein said data entity is generated by the management entity.

13. A method as claimed in claim 11, wherein the data entity is based on an electronic data card format.

14. A method as claimed in claim 11, wherein said information is inserted in a data field of the data entity.

15. A method as claimed in claim 11, wherein the data entity is based on a format that has been selected from a list comprising of:

an electronic business card format;

an electronic calendar format;

an electronic commerce modelling language format.

16. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the communication media between the user equipment and the service management entity comprises an interface that is based on at least one of the following:

short message service (SMS);

wireless application protocol (WAP);

internet protocol (IP);

a short range radio link;

a proximity card type interface;

an infrared link.

17. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the user equipment communicates with a base station of a cellular communication network.

18. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said information is transmitted to the user equipment in a message containing also other information.

19. A method as claimed in claim 1, comprising a step of storing said information associated with provisioning of the transaction means at the user equipment.

20. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said information is transmitted to the user equipment in association with exchange of transaction information between the user equipment and a service provider.

21. An arrangement for processing electronic transactions comprising:

a user equipment;

a transaction service entity adapted to generate control information to be transported to the user equipment; and

communication means for communication between the user equipment and the transaction service entity,

wherein the arrangement is such that the user equipment can be provided with transaction means based on said control information transported to the user equipment via said communication means.

22. An arrangement as claimed in claim 21 adapted to modify existing transaction means based on said control information.

23. An arrangement as claimed in claim 21 adapted to initiate transaction means based on said control information.

24. An arrangement as claimed in claim 21, wherein the user equipment is provided with means for wireless communication with a co-operative device.

25. A user equipment comprising receiver means and transaction means, wherein the provision of the transaction means is based on information that is received via the receiver means.
