Abstract

A method of forming a film consisted of an organic compound material at low cost using an organic compound material having the high luminescence efficiency is provided. The present invention is characterized by the fact that a layer containing an organic compound is formed on the substrate under the inactive gas atmosphere by spreading the colloidal solution (referred to as sol) in which an aggregate of organic compound is dispersed. Noted that in the present invention, an organic compound may be particulate that several pieces of organic compound is aggregated in the liquid, or may be an organic compound partially dissolved in the liquid. Moreover, according to the present invention, a metal thin film is formed using the colloidal solution in which a metal material having a small work function is dispersed on the layer containing an organic compound by a coat method and made it a cathode or one portion of a cathode.

Claims

1. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

repeatedly spreading a composition comprising a dispersoid of an aggregate of an organic compound and a dispersion medium of a liquid from a nozzle; and

forming a film containing an aggregate of an organic compound over an adherend.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said composition is liquid having the fluidity, an aggregate of an organic compound is dispersed as a colloidal particulate in liquid.

3. A method according to claim 1, wherein said organic compounds are one or more kinds selected from quinacridone, tris (2-phenylpyridine)iridium and bathocuproine.

4. A method according to claim 1, wherein said organic compounds are one or more kinds selected from poly (1,4-phenylenevinylene), poly (1,4-naphthalenevinylene), poly(2-phenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene), polythiophene, poly (3-phenylthiophene), poly (1,4-phenylene) and poly (2,7-fluorene).

5. A method according to claim 1, wherein a mask is arranged between said nozzle and said adherend and a film containing an aggregate of an organic compound is formed by making pass through an opening of the relevant mask.

6. A method according to claim 5, wherein said composition or said mask is electrified.

7. A method according to claim 1, wherein said liquid is one or more kinds selected from alcohols, toluene and water.

8. A method according to claim 1, wherein said film is formed under an inactive gas atmosphere.

9. A method according to claim 1, wherein the number of ejection outlets of said nozzle is one or two or more.

10. A method according to claim 1, wherein said adherend is a substrate on which a switching element is provided.

11. A method according to claim 1, wherein a film is formed on said adherend while said nozzle is moved.

12. A method according to claim 1, wherein an electric field is generated between said nozzle and said adherend.

13. A method according to claim 1, wherein a film containing an aggregate of said organic compound is formed by said spreading and at the same time, by heating said adherend.

15. A method according to claim 14, wherein said composition is liquid having the fluidity, and at least one portion of an organic compound is dissolved in liquid.

16. A method according to claim 14, wherein said organic compounds are one or more kinds selected from quinacridone, tris (2-phenylpyridine)iridium and bathocuproine.

17. A method according to claim 14, wherein said organic compounds are one or more kinds selected from poly (1,4-phenylenevinylene), poly (1,4-naphthalenevinylene) poly(2-phenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene), polythiophene, poly (3-phenylthiophene), poly (1,4-phenylene) andpoly (2,7-fluorene).

18. A method according to claim 14, wherein a mask is arranged between said nozzle and said adherend and a film containing an aggregate of an organic compound is formed by making pass through an opening of the relevant mask.

19. A method according to claim 18, wherein said composition or said mask is electrified.

20. A method according to claim 14, wherein said liquid is one or more kinds selected from alcohols, toluene and water.

21. A method according to claim 14, wherein said film is formed under an inactive gas atmosphere.

22. A method according to claim 14, wherein the number of ejection outlets of said nozzle is one or two or more.

23. A method according to claim 14, wherein said adherend is a substrate on which a switching element is provided.

24. A method according to claim 14, wherein a film is formed on said adherend while said nozzle is moved.

25. A method according to claim 14, wherein an electric field is generated between said nozzle and said adherend.

26. A method according to claim 14, wherein a film containing an aggregate of said organic compound is formed by said spreading and at the same time, by heating said adherend.

28. A method according to claim 27, wherein said aggregate of said organic compound is a capsule having a uniform shape.

29. A method according to claim 27, wherein a film containing an aggregate of said organic compound is formed by said spreading and at the same time, by heating said adherend.

38. A method according to claim 1 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

39. A method according to claim 14 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

40. A method according to claim 27 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

14. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

repeatedly spreading a composition that an organic compound is dissolved in liquid from a nozzle; and

forming a film containing an organic compound over an adherend by the repeated spreading.

27. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

discharging a composition comprising a dispersoid particulate of an aggregate of an organic compound and a dispersion medium of a liquid from a nozzle;

repeatedly spreading by vaporizing one portion of said composition and making into powder or gel; and

forming a film containing an aggregate of an organic compound over an adherend by the repeated spreading.

30. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

forming a layer containing an organic compound over an anode;

discharging a composition of a dispersoid particulate of an aggregate of a metal compound over said layer containing an organic compound;

forming a film comprising said metal compound by the discharging; and

forming an electrically conductive transparent film over said film comprising said metal compound.

31. A method according to claim 30, wherein said film comprising said metal compound transmits light.

32. A method according to claim 30, wherein said metal compound contains Li, Al, Ag, Mg, Cs or Ca.

41. A method according to claim 30 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

33. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

forming a layer containing an organic compound over an anode;

discharging a composition comprising a dispersoid particulate of an aggregate of a metal compound over said layer containing said organic compound and a dispersion medium of a liquid; and

forming a cathode comprising a metal compound.

34. A method according to claim 33, wherein said metal compound contains Li, Al, Ag, Mg, Cs or Ca.

36. A method according to claim 35, wherein said metal film contains Li, Al, Ag, Mg, Cs or Ca.

37. A method according to claim 35, wherein said metal compound contains Li, Al, Ag, Mg, Cs or Ca.

42. A method according to claim 33 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

43. A method according to claim 35 wherein said luminescent device is incorporated into at least one selected from the group consisting of a digital still camera, a laptop computer, a mobile computer, a portable image reproducing device equipped with a recording medium, a goggle type display, a video camera, and a cellular phone.

35. A method for manufacturing a luminescent device comprising:

forming a layer containing an organic compound over an anode;

discharging a composition comprising a dispersoid particulate of an aggregate of a metal compound and a dispersion medium of a liquid over said layer containing said organic compound;

forming a film comprising a metal compound by the discharging; and

forming a metal film having a thicker film thickness than said film comprising said metal compound over said film comprising said metal compound.
