33. (New) A method for implanting a bone implant between adjacent bone bodies, comprising:

providing a body having a smooth leading portion, a bone-engaging trailing portion, and opposed lateral portions adapted for placement toward adjacent bone bodies;
excavating a pair of adjacent bone bodies to receive the body therebetween axially inserting the smooth leading portion of the body between the prepared adjacent bone bodies to axially align the body therebetween; and
forcibly axially urging the bone-engaging trailing portion of the body between the adjacent bone bodies to retain the body therebetween.
