Abstract

A method for re-transmitting data or control information in a radio link control layer relates to determining whether re-transmission will be ended by comparing a number of transmission with a critical value when the transmission of data or control information has successively failed. The retransmission cycle is comprised of the steps in the order of transmitting information, checking the transmission failure with exit, and counting the transmission number with exit. Therefore, the present invention makes any transmission be checked and prevents wasting radio resource which can occur in re-transmitting data or control information in UMTS mobile communication system.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting information of a radio link control layer in a radio communication system, the steps comprising:

comparing a state variable responsive to a number of transmission with a reference value;

transmitting information of a radio link control layer to a receiving device if the state variable is less than the reference value;

determining whether transmission is successful by checking a response of the receiving device; and

repeating the step of comparing the state variable if the transmission is determined unsuccessful.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of terminating procedure, if the transmission is determined successful, or if the state variable indicating the number of transmission is equal to the reference value.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein changing a setting for sending and receiving information of a radio link control layer before ending the procedure, if the state variable responsive to the number of transmission is equal to the reference value.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the radio communication system comprises a mobile user equipment and the receiving device is at least one of network apparatus.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the radio communication system comprises at least one of network apparatus and the receiving device is a mobile user equipment.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the information of the radio link control layer comprises at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the state variable is associated with transmission of at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the reference value is associated with transmission of at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.

9. A radio communication system for transmitting information of a radio link control layer, comprising:

a plurality of control layer entities, each entity capable of communicating with a corresponding entity of a receiving device;

a radio link control layer entity of the plurality of control layer entities of the radio communication system comparing a state variable responsive to a number of transmission with a reference value, transmitting information of a radio link control layer to a receiving device if the state variable is less than the reference value, determining whether the transmission is successful by checking the response of the receiving device; and

the radio link control layer entity performing the step of comparing the state variable if the transmission is determined unsuccessful.

10. The radio communication system of claim 9, wherein the radio link control layer entity terminates procedure, if the transmission is determined successful, or if the state variable indicating the number of transmission is equal to the reference value.

11. The radio communication system of claim 10, wherein the radio link control layer entity changes the setting for sending and receiving information of a radio link control layer before ending the procedure, if the state variable indicating the number of transmission is equal to the reference value.

12. The radio communication system of claim 9, wherein the radio communication system comprises a mobile user equipment and the receiving device is at least one of network apparatus.

13. The radio communication system of claim 9, wherein the radio communication system comprises at least one of network apparatus and the receiving device is a mobile user equipment.

14. The radio communication system of claim 9, wherein the information of the radio link control layer comprises at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.

15. The radio communication system of claim 14, wherein the state variable is associated with transmission of at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.

16. The radio communication system of claim 15, wherein the reference value is associated with transmission of at least one of a user data unit, a MRW command and a reset command.
