An adjustable lag interferometer of the type including means for separating an input beam into two paths, means for applying adjustable relative lag to light passing through the two paths, and means for recombining light from the two paths, wherein the means for applying adjustable relative lag comprises:

  • a plurality of selectively enabled delay elements each incorporated into one of the interferometer paths, each delay element selectively applying a delay of either P or P+nΓ

    to light passing through the path in which said element is incorporated.
