Abstract

Disclosed are a system and method of remotely providing diagnostic procedures to a processing system. Upon being launched on a processing system, an agent process may receive data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures from a data network coupled to the processing system. One or more of the diagnostic procedures may then be executed to provide diagnostic results.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

launching an agent process to a processing system;

receiving data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process system from a data network coupled to the processing system; and

executing one or more of the diagnostic procedures on the processing system to provide one or more diagnostic results.

2. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising:

formatting the diagnostic results for transmission to a destination; and

transmitting the formatted diagnostic results to the destination through the data network.

3. The method of claim 2, the method further comprising formatting the diagnostic results according to an extensible markup language.

4. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising transmitting a message requesting the one or more diagnostic procedures through the data network in response to launching the agent process on the processing system.

5. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising transmitting a request for the data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures to a diagnostic procedure source through the data network in response to launching the agent process.

6. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising:

transmitting an identifying code to a diagnostic source through the data network, the identifying code being associated with the agent process; and

selecting data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process based upon the identifying code; and

transmitting the selected data to the agent process through the data network.

7. An article comprising:

a storage medium comprising machine-readable instructions stored thereon for;

launching an agent process to a processing system;

receiving data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process system from a data network coupled to the processing system; and

executing one or more of the diagnostic procedures on the processing system to provide one or more diagnostic results.

8. The article of claim 7, wherein the storage medium further comprises machine-readable instructions stored thereon for:

formatting the diagnostic results for transmission to a destination; and

transmitting the formatted diagnostic results to the destination through the data network.

9. The article of claim 8, wherein the storage medium further comprises machine-readable instructions stored thereon for formatting the diagnostic results according to an extensible markup language.

10. The article of claim 7, wherein the storage medium further comprises machine-readable instructions stored thereon for transmitting a message requesting the data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures through the data network in response to launching the agent process on the processing system.

11. The article of claim 7, wherein the storage medium further comprises machine-readable instructions stored thereon for launching an agent process to the processing system, the agent process comprising logic to transmit a request for the data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures to a diagnostic procedure source through the data network and logic to initiate execution of diagnostic procedures.

12. The article of claim 7, wherein the storage medium further comprises machine-readable instructions stored thereon for:

launching an agent process to a processing system;

receiving data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process system from a data network coupled to the processing system; and

executing one or more of the diagnostic procedures on the processing system.

13. A processing system comprising:

logic to launch an agent process;

logic to receive data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures from a data network; and

logic to execute the one or more diagnostic procedures in response to the agent process to provide one or more diagnostic results.

14. The processing system of claim 13, the processing system further comprising:

logic to format the diagnostic results for transmission to a destination; and

logic to transmit the formatted diagnostic results to the destination through the data network.

15. The processing system of claim 14, the processing system further comprising logic to format the diagnostic results according to an extensible markup language.

16. The processing system of claim 13, the processing system further comprising logic to transmit a message requesting the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures through the data network in response to a launch of the agent process.

17. The processing system of claim 13, the processing system further comprising logic to transmit a request for the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures to a diagnostic source through the data network in response to a launch of the agent process.

18. The processing system of claim 13, the processing system further comprising:

logic to transmit an identifying code to a diagnostic source through the data network, the identifying code being associated with the agent process; and

logic to receive data at the agent process from the diagnostic source through the data network.

19. A system comprising:

a data network;

a diagnostic source coupled to the data network; and

a processing system comprising;

logic to launch an agent process;

logic to receive data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures from the diagnostic source through the data network; and

logic to execute one or more of the received diagnostic procedures to provide diagnostic results.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the processing system further comprises:

logic to format the diagnostic results for transmission to a destination; and

logic to transmit the formatted diagnostic results to the destination through the data network.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the processing system further comprises logic to format the diagnostic results according to an extensible markup language.

22. The system of claim 19, wherein the processing system further comprises logic to transmit a message to the diagnostic source through the data network in response to a launch of the agent process, the message requesting the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures.

23. The system of claim 19, wherein the processing system further comprises logic to transmit a request for the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures to the diagnostic source through the data network in response to a launch of the agent process.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the processing system further comprises logic to transmit an identifying code to the diagnostic source through the data network, the identifying code being associated with the agent process, and wherein the diagnostic source further comprises logic to select the data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures based upon the identifying code;

and logic to transmit the selected data to the agent process through the data network.

25. An apparatus comprising:

means for launching an agent process to a processing system;

means for receiving data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process system from a data network coupled to the processing system; and

means for executing one or more of the diagnostic procedures on the processing system to provide one or more diagnostic results.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, the apparatus further comprising:

means for formatting the diagnostic results for transmission to a destination; and

means for transmitting the formatted diagnostic results to the destination through the data network.

27. The apparatus of claim 26, the apparatus further comprising means for formatting the diagnostic results according to an extensible markup language.

28. The apparatus of claim 25, the apparatus further comprising means for transmitting a message requesting the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures through the data network in response to launching the agent process on the processing system.

29. The apparatus of claim 25, the apparatus further comprising means for transmitting a request for the data to provide the one or more diagnostic procedures to a diagnostic procedure source through the data network in response to launching the agent process.

30. The apparatus of claim 25, the apparatus further comprising:

means for transmitting an identifying code to a diagnostic source through the data network, the identifying code being associated with the agent process; and

means for selecting the data to provide one or more diagnostic procedures at the agent process based upon the identifying code; and

means for transmitting the selected data to the agent process through the data network.
