Abstract

A deployment console controlling and managing the deployment and installation of software, including a platform-independent framework and offline applications, on devices, such as a personal digital assistant, Internet capable phone, handheld computer, laptop computer or desktop computer, remotely located from a central computer system. The framework and applications permitting the devices to run applications offline and synchronize data with the central computer system.

Claims

1. A deployment console for a computer system for use in managing deployment of software to a device over a connection comprising:

assignment software, said assignment software facilitating assignment of software intended to be installed on said device;

comparison software, said comparison software facilitating a comparison of software already installed on said device with said software intended to be installed on said device; and

installation software, said installation software facilitating downloading of said software intended to be installed on said device that is not already installed on said device based upon said comparison.

2. A deployment console as in claim 1, further comprising version control software, said version control software facilitating updating what versions of software are intended to be installed on said device.

3. A deployment console as in claim 1, wherein said assignment software comprises role assignment software, said role assignment software facilitating assignment of roles to users and of software intended to be installed on said device based upon roles of a user of said device.

4. A deployment console as in claim 3, wherein said assignment software further comprises personal assignment software, said personal assignment software facilitating assignment of software not intended to be installed on said device based upon said roles of said user to be installed on said device based upon a personal assignment.

5. A deployment console as in claim 1, further comprising installation protocol software, said installation protocol software facilitating setting of protocols for installation of said software intended to be installed on said device.

6. A deployment console as in claim 1, wherein said installation software facilitates deinstallation of software installed on said device that is not intended to be installed on said device if said comparison software indicates that software is installed on said device that is not intended to be installed on said device.

7. A deployment console as in claim 1, wherein said computer system comprises an application server.
