Abstract

A communication control method detects whether an opposing apparatus is capable of performing an abbreviated procedure during a handshake step, declares an initiation of the abbreviated procedure if the opposing apparatus is capable of performing the abbreviated procedure, omits a negotiation prior to transmitting a MEDLEY signal, allows a remote side to transmit capacity information and reception result once to a center side after exchanging the MEDLEY signal, and further allows the center side to transmit the final capacity and transmission speed information to the remote side, in order to complete the initialization sequence.

Claims

1. A communication control method for communicating between a center side and a remote side, comprising:

establishing a line between the center side and the remote side; and

performing an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and a communication capability prior to initiating a data communication;

wherein the remote side transmits capability information to the center side during the initialization sequence;

wherein the center side determines a communication capability based on own capability information and the capability information transmitted from the remote side, and transmits the determined communication capability to the remote side.

2. A communication control method for a remote side comprising:

establishing a line with a center side;

performing an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and a communication capability prior to initiating a data communication;

transmitting capability information of the remote side to the center side during the initialization sequence;

receiving a communication capability which is determined by the center side, based on capability information of the center side and the capability information of the remote side, transmitted from the remote side; and

performing communication based on the received communication capability.

3. A communication control method for a center side comprising:

establishing a line with a remote side;

performing an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and a communication capability prior to initiating a data communication;

determining a communication capability based on a communication capability of the center side and a communication capability of the remote side when capability information was received from the remote side during the initialization sequence; and

transmitting the determined communication capability to the remote side.

4. A communication control apparatus of a remote side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a center side;

an initialization sequence control section that performs an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and a communication capability prior to initiating a data communication;

a transmitting section that transmits capability information of the remote side to the center side during the initialization sequence;

a receiving section that receives a communication capability which is determined by the center side, based on capability information of the center side and the capability information of the remote side, transmitted from the remote side; and

a communication control section that performs communication based on the received communication capability.

5. A communication control apparatus of a center side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a remote side;

an initialization sequence control section that performs an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and a communication capability prior to initiating a data communication;

a determining section that determines a communication capability based on a communication capability of the center side and a communication capability of the remote side when capability information was received from the remote side during the initialization sequence; and

a transmitting section that transmits the determined communication capability to the remote side.

10. An ADSL communication apparatus of a center side comprising:

the communication control apparatus of the center side of claim 5, in order to perform an ADSL communication utilizing the communication control apparatus.

6. A communication control apparatus of a remote side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a center side;

a transmitting section that transmits a signal to the center side indicating that the remote side is capable of performing an original abbreviated procedure during a handshake procedure;

a receiving section that receives a signal transmitted from the center side indicating that the center side is capable of performing the original abbreviated procedure; and

a communication control section that performs the original abbreviated procedure during an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and capacity to be used prior to initiating a data communication.

11. An ADSL communication apparatus of a remote side comprising:

the communication control apparatus of the remote side of claim 6, in order to perform an ADSL communication utilizing the communication control apparatus.

7. A communication control apparatus of a center side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a remote side;

a receiving section that receives a signal from the remote side indicating that the remote side is capable of performing an original abbreviated procedure during a handshake procedure;

a returning section that returns a signal to the remote side indicating that the center side is capable of performing the original abbreviated procedure during a handshake procedure; and

a communication control section that performs the original abbreviated procedure during an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and capacity to be used prior to initiating a data communication.

8. A communication control apparatus of a remote side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a center side;

an initialization sequence control section that performs an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and capacity to be used prior to initiating a data communication;

a detector that detects a line condition using a MEDLEY procedure in the initialization sequence;

a transmitting section that transmits a detection result of the line condition detected by said detector to the center side;

a receiving section that receives up-link and down-link speed information that is calculated by the center side based on a detection result of a line condition of the center side and the detection result of the line condition of the remote side; and

a communication control section that performs a data communication in accordance with the speed information.

9. A communication control apparatus of a center side comprising:

a line control section that establishes a line with a remote side;

an initialization sequence control section that performs an initialization sequence that determines a transmission speed and capacity to be used prior to initiating a data communication;

a detector that detects a line condition using a MEDLEY procedure in the initialization sequence;

a receiving section that receives a detection result of a line condition of the remote side;

a calculator that calculates up-link and down-link speed information based on the detection result of the line condition of the remote side, detected by said detector, and a detection result of a line condition of the center side;

a transmitting section that transmits the speed information calculated by said calculator to the remote side; and

a communication control section that performs a data communication in accordance with the speed information.
