Abstract

A method of transmitting packet data in a CDM and TDM mobile data communication system is provided. The method comprises determining priorities of one or more control channels, transmitting control information related to one or more packet data sets to one or more mobile stations through corresponding control channels according to the priorities; and transmitting the one or more packet data sets to each mobile station through one or more data channels that correspond to the one or more control channels, respectively. And, a frame duration of the higher priority data control channel restricts a frame duration of the lower priority data control channel.

Claims

1. A method of transmitting packet data on packet data channel in a radio communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

prioritizing at least two packet data control channels;

transmitting control information related to packet data channel on at least one of the prioritized packet data control channels; and

transmitting the packet data on the prioritized packet data channels.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one of the prioritized packet data control channel is determined based on at least one of priority and a number of packet data control channels currently being used.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein if the control information is transmitted on at least two prioritized packet data control channel, respective control information is concurrently transmitted.

The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting additional information to respective mobile stations, the additional information including at least one of first information indicating whether CDM is supported, second information indicating maximum number of packet data control channel, third information indicating number of packet data control channel currently being used, and fourth information indicating whether the CDM is currently being used.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising informing the priority of the prioritized packet data control channels of respective mobile stations by Walsh code information based on the priority.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the Walsh code information is predetermined or transmitted on a control channel.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the control information on the prioritized packet data control channel is transmitted by the Walsh code information.

8. A method of transmitting packet data on packet data channel in a communication network, the method comprising the steps of:

scheduling one or more packet data for transmission;

deciding whether to use CDM during the scheduling;

transmitting control information related to the at least two packet data channels on at least two packet data control channels having priorities, if the CDM is being used; and

transmitting the packet data through packet data channels that correspond to the control channels during one or more data transmission periods.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising transmitting the control information over a control channel having a highest priority if the CDM is not being used.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein each data transmission period of data channel associated with the packet data control channel having a highest priority restrict each data transmission period of lower priority data channels.

11. A method of transmitting packet data control information in a radio communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

transmitting a first control information to a first mobile station on a first packet data control channel having a first priority; and

concurrently transmitting a second control information to a second mobile station on a second packet data channel having a second priority.

12. A method of claim 11, further comprising informing the first priority and the second priority of respective mobile stations by Walsh code information.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the walsh code information is predetermined or transmitted on at least one of the first and the second packet data control channel.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein a frame duration for transmitting the second control information is restricted by a frame duration for transmitting the first control information.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the first frame duration is aligned with the second frame duration.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the second frame duration is equal to or shorter than the first frame duration.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the second frame duration is the same as the first frame duration.

18. A method of transmitting control information in a radio communication system, the method comprising a step of:

transmitting the control information corresponding to a packet data channel on at least two control channels having the same time aligned frame duration.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein a frame duration of the packet data control channel is the same as a frame duration of the corresponding data channel.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein a beginning of a frame of the data channel is aligned with a beginning of a frame of the corresponding control channel.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein a frame duration for transmitting the second control information is determined by a frame duration for transmitting the first control information.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the second frame duration is aligned with the first frame duration at a particular time.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the second frame duration is equal to or shorter than longer than the first frame duration.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein the second frame duration is the same as the first frame duration.

25. A method of receiving a control information on a packet data control channel in radio communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving priority information of packet data control channels from a base station;

detecting the packet data control channel corresponding to assigned mobile station according to the priority information; and

receiving control information on the packet data control channel;

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the priority information is predetermined or transmitted over at least one of a signaling channel and a broadcasting channel.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the priority information is Walsh code information.

28. A method of communicating packet data in a communication network, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving information from a base station, the information including priorities of at least one control channel, control channel information, and a CDM indicator, the CDM indicator indicating whether CDM is currently being used or not;

monitoring the at least one control channel according to the information received from the base station; and

receiving a corresponding packet data set by each mobile station by using results obtained from the monitoring.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the control channel information includes a maximum number of control channels and a number of control channels currently being used.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein each mobile station monitors the control channels according the maximum number of control channels, if the CDM indicator is not received and the maximum number of control channels is known.

31. The method of claim 28, wherein each mobile station monitors the control channels according to the CDM indicator, if the CDM indicator is received.

32. A method of transmitting packet data in a radio communication system that are capable of supporting code division multiplexing (CDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM), wherein at least two control channels and at least two data channels are being supported in the radio communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

prioritizing the at least two control channels in response to predetermined criteria;

associating the at least two data channels with the prioritized control channels;

informing at least one mobile station of the prioritized control channels; and

transmitting the packet data using at least one of the data channels corresponding to the prioritized control channel.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein a control channel having the highest priority is used prior to a control channel having a lower priority.

34. The method of claim 32, wherein the control channel comprises a frame duration that is variable from frame to frame, and the corresponding data channel that has the same time-aligned frame duration.

35. The method of claim 32, wherein the at least two control channels and the associated at least two data channels have the same time-aligned frame duration.

36. A method of receiving packet data at a mobile station in a communication network that are capable of supporting code division multiplexing (CDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM), wherein at least two control channels and at least two data channels are being supported in the communication network, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving prioritized control channel information that prioritized the at least two control channels;

associating the at least two data channels with the prioritized control channels; and

monitoring the at least two control channels in an order of the prioritized control channels.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the mobile station terminates the monitoring step upon detecting information associated with assigned information.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the assigned information comprises a Walsh code.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the assigned information is predetermined or transmitted on at least one of broadcasting channel and signaling channel.

40. The method of claim 39, the assigned information is spread and transmitted by using the Walsh information.

41. A radio communication system for transmitting data packets in a communication network that are capable of supporting code division multiplexing (CDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM), wherein at least two control channels and at least two data channels are being supported in the radio communication system, the radio communication system comprising:

means for prioritizing the at least two control channels in response to predetermined criteria;

means for associating the at least two data channels with the prioritized control channels;

means for informing at least one mobile station about the prioritized control channels; and

means for transmitting the packet data using at least one of the data channels corresponding the prioritized control channel.

42. The radio communication system of claim 41, further comprising:

means for transmitting to the mobile station Walsh code information associated with the at least two data control channels.

43. The radio communication system of claim 41, wherein a control channel having the highest priority is used prior to a control channel having a lower priority.

44. The radio communication system of claim 41, wherein the control channel comprises a frame duration that is variable from frame to frame, and the data channel associated with the control channel has the same time-aligned frame duration.

45. The radio communication system of claim 44, wherein the at least two control channels and the associated at least two data channels have the same time-aligned frame duration.

46. A mobile station for receiving packet data in a communication network that supports code division multiplexing (CDM) and time division multiplexing (TDM), wherein at least two control channels and at least two data channels are being supported, the mobile station comprising:

means for receiving prioritized control channel information that prioritized the at least two control channels;

means for associating the at least two data channels with the prioritized control channels; and

means for monitoring the at least two control channels in an order of the prioritized control channels.

47. The mobile station of claim 46, wherein the mobile station terminates the monitoring step upon detecting information associated with assigned information.
