Abstract

Disclosed is an information providing system in which the information providing apparatus first receives a connection request from the first information processing apparatus. Upon receipt of the connection request, a check is made to see whether the information providing apparatus is providing any image data or sound data to the second information processing apparatus. If the information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any image data or sound data to the second information processing apparatus, then information related to a chat program is transmitted to the first and the second information processing apparatus. After transmitting the connection request to the information providing apparatus, the first information processing apparatus receives the information related to the chat program from the information providing apparatus. Upon reception of the information, the first information processing apparatus executes a process based on the received information related to the chat program. The second information processing apparatus also receives the information related to the chat program from the information providing apparatus and thereupon executes a process based on the received information related to the chat program.

Claims

1. An information providing system constituted of an information providing apparatus for providing image data and sound data over a network and of a first and a second information processing apparatus for displaying images and outputting sounds based on the provided image data and sound data;

wherein said information providing apparatus comprises;

first reception controlling means for controlling reception of a connection request from said first information processing apparatus;

judging means which, upon receipt of said connection request, judges whether said information providing apparatus is providing any of said image data and sound data to said second information processing apparatus; and

first transmission controlling means which, if said information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any of said image data and sound data to said second information processing apparatus, then controls transmission of information related to a chat program to said first and said second information processing apparatus;

wherein said first information processing apparatus comprises;

second transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of said connection request to said information providing apparatus;

second reception controlling means for controlling reception of said information related to said chat program from said information providing apparatus; and

first executing means which, upon reception of said information related to said chat program, executes a process based on the received information related to said chat program; and

wherein said second information processing apparatus comprises;

third reception controlling means for controlling reception of said information related to said chat program from said information providing apparatus; and

second executing means which, upon receipt of said information related to said chat program, executes a process based on the received information related to said chat program.

An information providing system according to claim 1, wherein said information providing apparatus further comprises third transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of the same of said image data and said sound data to said first and said second information processing apparatus.

3. An information providing system according to claim 1, wherein said first transmission controlling means controls transmission of said information related to said chat program as a chat program boot-up request;

wherein said first executing means boots said chat program upon receipt of said information related to said chat program; and

wherein said second executing means boots said chat program upon receipt of said information related to said chat program.

4. An information providing apparatus for providing image data and sound data over a network to a first and a second information processing apparatus displaying images and outputting sounds based on the provided image data and sound data, said information providing apparatus comprising:

reception controlling means for controlling reception of a connection request from said first information processing apparatus;

judging means which, upon receipt of said connection request, judges whether said information providing apparatus is providing any of said image data and sound data to said second information processing apparatus; and

first transmission controlling means which, if said information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any of said image data and sound data to said second information processing apparatus, then controls transmission of information related to a chat program to said first and said second information processing apparatus.

5. An information providing apparatus according to claim 4, further comprising second transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of the same of said image data and said sound data to said first and said second information processing apparatus.

6. An information providing apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said first transmission controlling means controls transmission of said information related to said chat program as a chat program boot-up request.

An information providing method for use with an information providing apparatus for providing image data and sound data over a network to a first and a second information processing apparatus displaying images and outputting sounds based on the provided image data and sound data, said information providing method comprising the steps of:

controlling reception of a connection request from said first information processing apparatus;

upon receipt of said connection request, judging whether said information providing apparatus is providing any of said image data and said sound data to said second information processing apparatus; and

if said information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any of said image data and said sound data to said second information processing apparatus, then controlling transmission of information related to a chat program to said first and said second information processing apparatus.

A program for use with a computer which controls an information providing apparatus for providing image data and sound data over a network to a first and a second information processing apparatus displaying images and outputting sounds based on the provided image data and sound data, said program causing said computer to execute the steps of:

controlling reception of a connection request from said first information processing apparatus;

upon receipt of said connection request, judging whether said information providing apparatus is providing any of said image data and said sound data to said second information processing apparatus; and

if said information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any of said image data and said sound data to said second information processing apparatus, then controlling transmission of information related to a chat program to said first and said second information processing apparatus.

9. An information processing apparatus for displaying images and outputting sounds based on image data and sound data provided by an information providing apparatus over a network, said information processing apparatus comprising:

reception controlling means for controlling reception of information related to a chat program from said information providing apparatus; and

executing means which, upon reception of said information related to said chat program, executes a process based on the received information related to said chat program.

10. An information processing apparatus according to claim 9, wherein, upon receipt of said information related to said chat program, said executing means boots said chat program.

11. An information processing method for use with an information processing apparatus for displaying images and outputting sounds based on image data and sound data provided by an information providing apparatus over a network, said information processing method comprising the step of:

controlling reception of information related to a chat program from said information providing apparatus; and

upon reception of said information related to said chat program, executing a process based on the received information related to said chat program.

12. A program for use with a computer which controls an information processing apparatus for displaying images and outputting sounds based on image data and sound data provided by an information providing apparatus over a network, said program causing said computer to execute the step of:

controlling reception of information related to a chat program from said information providing apparatus; and

upon reception of said information related to said chat program, executing a process based on the received information related to said chat program.

13. An information providing system constituted of an information providing apparatus and an information processing apparatus;

wherein said information providing apparatus comprises;

first reception controlling means for controlling reception of a request from said information processing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus; and

first transmission controlling means which, upon receipt of the version report request, controls transmission of version data denoting the version of said program to said information processing apparatus; and

wherein said information processing apparatus comprises;

second transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of said version report request to said information providing apparatus;

recording controlling means for controlling recording of function data representing correspondence between said version of said program and functions provided by said information providing apparatus;

second reception controlling means for controlling reception of said version data from said information providing apparatus; and

determining means for determining the functions of said information providing apparatus based on said function data and said version data.

14. An information providing system according to claim 13, wherein said information providing apparatus further comprises third transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of moving image data to said information processing apparatus;

and

wherein said information processing apparatus further comprises third reception controlling means for controlling reception of said moving image data from said information providing apparatus.

15. An information providing apparatus for providing data to an information processing apparatus, said information providing apparatus comprising:

reception controlling means for controlling reception of a request from said information processing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus; and

first transmission controlling means which, upon receipt of the version report request, controls transmission of version data denoting the version of said program to said information processing apparatus.

16. An information providing apparatus according to claim 15, further comprising second transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of moving image data to said information processing apparatus.

17. An information providing method for use with an information providing apparatus for providing data to an information processing apparatus, said information providing method comprising the steps of:

controlling reception of a request from said information processing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus; and

upon receipt of the version report request, controlling transmission of version data denoting the version of said program to said information processing apparatus.

18. A program for use with a computer which controls an information providing apparatus for providing data to an information processing apparatus, said program causing said computer to execute the steps of:

controlling reception of a request from said information processing apparatus for a version report regarding said program; and

upon receipt of the version report request, controlling transmission of version data denoting the version of said program to said information processing apparatus.

19. An information processing apparatus for processing data provided by an information providing apparatus, said information processing apparatus comprising:

transmission controlling means for controlling transmission of a request to said information providing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus;

recording controlling means for controlling recording of function data representing correspondence between the version of said program and functions provided by said information providing apparatus;

first reception controlling means for controlling reception of version data from said information providing apparatus; and

determining means for determining the functions of said information providing apparatus based on said function data and said version data.

20. An information processing method for use with an information processing apparatus for processing data provided by an information providing apparatus, said information processing method comprising the steps of:

controlling transmission of a request to said information providing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus;

controlling recording of function data representing correspondence between the version of said program and functions provided by said information providing apparatus;

controlling reception of version data from said information providing apparatus; and

determining the functions of said information providing apparatus based on said function data and said version data.

21. A program for use with a computer which controls an information processing apparatus for processing data provided by an information providing apparatus, said program causing said computer to execute the steps of:

controlling transmission of a request to said information providing apparatus for a version report regarding a program being executed by said information providing apparatus;

controlling recording of function data representing correspondence between the version of said program and functions provided by said information providing apparatus;

controlling reception of version data from said information providing apparatus; and

determining the functions of said information providing apparatus based on said function data and said version data.
