Abstract

A situation such that E-mail such as spam mail with contents which the user of a printing apparatus does not desire is sent to the printing apparatus and a user'"'"'s undesirable print is executed is prevented. For this purpose, whether an E-mail address of a transmitting source of the E-mail has been registered in an address book or not is discriminated. If it is not registered in the address book, this E-mail data is abandoned.

Claims

1. An image processing apparatus which can receive E-mail from an external apparatus, comprising:

address storing means for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail which have been registered;

discriminating means for discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means or not; and

print processing means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means, executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the received E-mail.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising image forming means for forming an image onto a recording medium on the basis of print data,

and wherein said print processing means forms the print data on the basis of image data annexed to the received E-mail in a file format.

An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising abandoning means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address storing means, abandoning the received E-mail and image data included in the E-mail.

An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising annex discriminating means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means, discriminating whether image data has been annexed to said received E-mail in a file format or not,

and wherein if it is determined by said annex discriminating means that the image data has been annexed, said print processing means executes the printing process on the basis of the image data.

An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising process discriminating means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means, discriminating whether image data included in said E-mail can be processed by said print processing means or not,

and wherein if it is determined by said process discriminating means that the image data can be processed by said print processing means, said print processing means executes the printing process on the basis of the image data.

6. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising obtaining means for requesting E-mail whose predetermined address is set to the transmitting source from a mail managing apparatus connected via a network.

7. An image processing apparatus which can receive E-mail from an external apparatus, comprising:

address storing means for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail which have been registered;

discriminating means for discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means or not; and

editing means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means, editing contents of said address storing means in accordance with an edit command included in the received E-mail.

8. An image processing apparatus which can receive E-mail from an external apparatus, comprising:

address storing means for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail which have been registered;

discriminating means for discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means or not; and

print processing means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address storing means, executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the received E-mail.

An apparatus according to claim 8, further comprising abandoning means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing means, abandoning the received E-mail and image data included in the E-mail.

An apparatus according to claim 8, further comprising annex discriminating means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address storing means, discriminating whether image data has been annexed to said received E-mail in a file format or not,

and wherein if it is determined by said annex discriminating means that the image data has been annexed, said print processing means executes the printing process on the basis of the image data.

An apparatus according to claim 8, further comprising process discriminating means for, if it is determined by said discriminating means that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address storing means, discriminating whether image data included in said E-mail can be processed by said print processing means or not,

and wherein if it is determined by said process discriminating means that the image data can be processed by said print processing means, said print processing means executes the printing process on the basis of the image data.

12. An image processing method of receiving E-mail from an external apparatus and executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the E-mail, comprising the steps of:

discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in an address memory area for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail or not; and

if it is determined that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address memory area, executing the printing process on the basis of the data included in the received E-mail.

13. An image processing method of receiving E-mail from an external apparatus and executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the E-mail, comprising the steps of:

discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in an address memory area for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail or not; and

if it is determined that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address memory area, executing the printing process on the basis of the data included in the received E-mail.

14. A program for controlling an image processing apparatus which can receive E-mail from an external apparatus and has an address storing unit for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail, wherein said program allows a computer to execute:

a discriminating step of discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing unit or not; and

a print processing step of, if it is determined in said discriminating step that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing unit, executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the received E-mail.

15. A program for controlling an image processing apparatus which can receive E-mail from an external apparatus and has an address storing unit for storing at least one of addresses of the E-mail, wherein said program allows a computer to execute:

a discriminating step of discriminating whether an address of a transmitting source of the received E-mail has been registered in said address storing unit or not; and

a print processing step of, if it is determined in said discriminating step that the address of the transmitting source of the received E-mail is not registered in said address storing unit, executing a printing process on the basis of data included in the received E-mail.
