Abstract

The present invention provides a film-reinforced glass, which has excellent impact resistance, penetration resistance and durability and which can be easily prepared. The constitution of the glass consists of one glass plate and a film comprising an organic polymer which is superposed thereon through a transparent adhesive layer, wherein the transparent adhesive layer comprises a first transparent adhesive layer of polyvinyl butyral and a second transparent adhesive layer of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer; or wherein a hard coat layer consisting of a cured layer formed from a curable resin containing fine particles of silica is provided on the surface of the organic polymer film on the side in noncontact with the transparent adhesive layer.

Claims

1. A film-reinforced glass comprising one glass plate and a film comprising an organic polymer which is superposed thereon through a transparent adhesive layer,

wherein the transparent adhesive layer comprises a first transparent adhesive layer comprising polyvinyl butyral and a second transparent adhesive layer comprising ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, the first transparent adhesive layer being provided on the side of the glass plate and the second transparent adhesive layer being provided on the side of the film.

2. The film-reinforced glass as defined in claim 1, wherein the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of the second transparent adhesive layer is cured by a crosslinker.

3. The film-reinforced glass as defined in claim 1 or 2, wherein the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of the second transparent adhesive layer comprises ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer cured by triallyl isocyanurate.

4. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 3, wherein a thickness of the first transparent adhesive layer is in the range of 100 to 1,000 μ

m.

5. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the first transparent adhesive layer is formed by a coating method.

6. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 5, wherein a thickness of the second transparent adhesive layer is in the range of 5 to 600 μ

m.

7. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the second transparent adhesive layer is formed by a coating method.

8. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of the second transparent adhesive layer contains vinyl acetate in an amount of 10 to 50% by weight.

9. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 8, wherein the transparent adhesive layer further contains γ

-(methacryloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane.

10. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 9, wherein the organic polymer film is a polyethylene terephthalate film or a polycarbonate film.

11. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 10, wherein a hard coat layer is provided on the organic polymer film.

12. The film-reinforced glass as defined in claim 11, wherein the hard coat layer comprises a cured layer formed from a curable resin containing fine particles of silica.

13. A side window of an automobile comprising the film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 12.

31. An automobile provided with the side window comprising the film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 1 to 12 and claims 19 to 29.

14. An adhesive film which comprises a first transparent adhesive layer comprising polyvinyl butyral and a second transparent adhesive layer comprising ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer provided on one side or both sides of the first transparent adhesive layer, the second transparent adhesive layer is formed by a coating method.

15. The adhesive film as defined in claim 14, wherein the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of the second transparent adhesive layer is cured by a crosslinker.

16. The adhesive film as defined in claim 14 or 15, wherein the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of the second transparent adhesive layer comprises ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer cured by triallyl isocyanurate.

17. The adhesive film as defined in any of claims 14 to 16, wherein a thickness of the first transparent adhesive layer is in the range of 100 to 1,000 μ

m.

18. The adhesive film as defined in any of claims 14 to 17, wherein a thickness of the second transparent adhesive layer is in the range of 5 to 600 μ

m.

19. A film-reinforced glass comprising one glass plate and a film comprising an organic polymer which is superposed thereon through a transparent adhesive layer comprising an organic resin,

wherein a hard coat layer comprising a cured layer formed from a curable resin containing fine particles of silica is provided on the surface of the organic polymer film on the side in noncontact with the transparent adhesive layer.

20. The film-reinforced glass as defined in claim 19, wherein the curable resin is an ultraviolet curable resin.

21. The film-reinforced glass as defined in claim 19 or 20, wherein the silica particles have a primary particle size of 1 to 200 nm.

22. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 21, wherein the silica particles have a polymerizable unsaturated group.

23. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 22, wherein the silica particles are obtained by reaction between silica particles and an alkoxy silane compound having a polymerizable unsaturated group.

24. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 23, wherein an antireflection layer is formed on the hard coat layer.

25. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 24, wherein the organic resin is at least one selected from polyvinyl butyral and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.

26. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 25, wherein the transparent adhesive layer comprises ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer cured by triallyl isocyanurate.

27. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 26, wherein the transparent adhesive layer further contains γ

-(methacryloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane.

28. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claim 19 to 27, wherein the transparent adhesive layer comprises a first transparent adhesive layer comprising polyvinyl butyral and a second transparent adhesive layer comprising ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, the first transparent adhesive layer being provided on the side of the glass plate and the second transparent adhesive layer being provided on the side of the film.

29. The film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 19 to 28, wherein the organic polymer is a polyethylene terephthalate or a polycarbonate.

30. A side window of a car comprising the film-reinforced glass as defined in any of claims 19 to 29.

32. A process for the preparation of a film-reinforced glass comprising:

placing a film comprising an organic polymer on a transparent adhesive layer of a laminate comprising one glass plate and the transparent adhesive layer provided thereon, the transparent adhesive layer comprising an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing a photopolymerization initiator,

subsequently applying a liquid containing a curable resin and fine particles of silica for forming a hard coat layer onto the film and drying a layer of the liquid to form a curable resin layer,

pressing and bonding the whole laminate having the curable resin layer in a vacuum, and

exposing the curable resin layer to ultraviolet rays to cure both of the curable resin layer and the transparent adhesive layer.

33. A process for the preparation of a film-reinforced glass comprising:

placing a film comprising an organic polymer on a transparent adhesive layer of a laminate comprising one glass plate and the transparent adhesive layer provided thereon, the transparent adhesive layer comprising an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing a photopolymerization initiator,

subsequently applying a liquid containing a curable resin and fine particles of silica for forming a hard coat layer onto the film to form a curable resin layer,

placing a release sheet on the curable resin layer,

pressing and bonding the whole laminate having the curable resin layer and the release sheet in a vacuum, and

exposing the curable resin layer to ultraviolet rays to cure both of the curable resin layer and the transparent adhesive layer.
